I have seen active learning throughout all of my classes this week. Most students take notes and figuring out the best ways that they can learn and retain information given to them in certain classes. Some students type notes on their computer and some write them in a notepad. Personally, over the many years of taking notes, I have learned that I prefer taking written notes instead of typed. It helps me retain the information better. Another experience of active learning was when I played volleyball. It took me forever to hit the ball on the correct part of my arms and once I got it, it stuck with me. It just took practice and watching others.

Constructive

Currently, I am nannying a two year old boy most days of the week. I have experienced many constructive learning examples from him. He likes to play with shape blocks that you have to push into correct hole for them to drop into the box. If he does not get it in, he gets confused, but soon after corrects himself and learns from it. Another personal experience that I have had using constructive learning is that I cannot study with music. Studying for previous tests with music in my ears has not helped me and I do not retain the information. Using that knowledge, I stopped studying with music and my grades got better.

Cooperative

I have already experienced cooperative learning in one of my classes this year. In my art class, I have been paired with a group of 4 other people and we are supposed to work together to create a lesson to teach the class out of our book. We have each taken different roles in the process so we each have a part in it and learn something new to teach the class. Another example I have experienced using cooperative learning would be when I ran track. We had to run around the track and make a mile under a certain amount of time. If we all did not make it under that time, we would have to run it again. We would help the ones that could not finish and helped them train and get themselves under that time. It took a lot of practice and team work.

Authentic

For me, when I think of authentic learning and my own personal experiences, I think of how organized I like to be. I have separate planners for all different things like school, work, and other life activities. It helps me stay on top of things because I am a very punctual person. I have learned that this works best for me and keeps my mind at ease. Another example of authentic learning would be my art class in middle school. We were taught all the different color theories and how to draw and do specific things, but we were also given the freedom to be creative with it and express our own selves.

Intentional

In my classes this week, my professors have made it clear that we need to be goal-directed and want to keep up with the work or else we will not pass. Keeping up with all the work in college classes is very hard, but manageable. You just have to use time management and organization skills. I take the time to write down all of my due dates for the week every Sunday to make sure I get everything done. I have also learned that I use other forms of intentional learning in school. I always email teachers when I have a problem or concern about a topic or assignment. It helps you in the long run and really engraves that in your brain since you went the extra mile to learn more about it.
