The image depicted here displays the Gestalt Principle of 'Proximity'. The term 'Proximity' refers to the tendency of humans to see parts of a visual stimulus that are positioned together as belonging in a certain group. Although there are multiple chairs shown in the picture below, the brain automatically separates them into groups of 5-4 due to their position.

The image depicted here displays the Gestalt Principle of 'Figure Ground'. The term 'Figure Ground' refers to the ability of the brain to use a contour line in order to perceptually separate the figure from the ground. In the image below, the brain is able to acknowledge the separation between the two flights of stairs, due to this ability.

The image depicted here displays the Gestalt Principle of 'Similarity'. This term refers to the way in which the brain groups stimuli based on similar features or colours. When examining the picture below, the brain is able to separate the red chairs from the black chairs, despite the fact that their only difference is their colour.

The image depicted here displays the Gestalt Principle of 'Closure'. This term refers to the way in which the brain can fill in gaps in a visual stimulus despite the fact that the image is not fully complete. In the image below, we are able to see a face surrounded by flowers, despite the lack of shading and facial features that would normally indicate a human face.
