The author believes that the concept of "Internet addiction" ignores the subjective experience and complexity of individuals in cyberspace: "The medical model of internet addition missing the live and subjective experience of time spent online in an era "(Johnson et al., 2015, p. 268)". The current medical model for Internet addiction cannot effectively capture the temporal changes triggered by digital technology and how people integrate online and offline activities in their daily lives. The article emphasizes that the practice of calling heavy Internet users' behavior addiction ignores their positive aspects of seeking information, social interaction and personal expression in the network objectively.

To really get a handle on what’s often called "Internet addiction," we need to look at it in a more balanced way. Here are two key things to think about:

1. What’s Happening Online: It's important to ask, "What exactly are they doing on the internet?" If someone is using their screen time to learn new things, stay in touch with friends, or explore their hobbies, that’s a lot different from just mindlessly scrolling. Understanding the content and purpose of their online activity can show us that what might look like too much screen time could actually be productive and enriching.

2. Impact on Everyday Life: We also need to consider how this online time is affecting their everyday life. Is their internet use messing with their sleep, school, work, or personal relationships? If it's not, and they're managing to keep a good balance between online and offline activities, then calling it an addiction might be a stretch. But if being online is clearly causing problems in their daily life, that’s a sign we might need to take a closer look.

By focusing on these points, we can better understand and support people in managing their internet use without quickly jumping to the label of addiction.

Internet addiction reflects people's overreliance on online activities, but it does not mean that the Internet itself is the source of the problem. Instead, focus on how people can balance online and offline activities in their daily lives to achieve healthy living and mental health.
