- This article encompasses a few major examples of what is deemed to be beautiful in Africa. The African pelvis was was more spacious and bigger than a European woman. Big is beautiful, young women are literally sent away for a month to be fattened up before marriage. Body paint symbolizes energy and fertility. Lip plates insinuate the characteristics of a hard-working, self-assured, confident woman.

- Initially surprising. When asked what is deemed attractive, the response consisted of internal factors, did not focus on outer beauty. Confidence, education, and mannerism where characteristics seen as beautiful. Women were not allowed to wear makeup, shave legs, or do many other beauty practices til after marriage. "The hijab to some people has been seen as the symbol of sexual suppression and male dominance (Ordibehesht). Despite what some think, the purpose of the hijab in most cultures was to remove women from this sexual objectification. "
