Forensic toxicology is studying harmful substances and understanding how it relates to a crime. For example, if a victim was poisoned a forensic toxicologist would examine the body and the poison to have more evidence for the crime. Toxicologists work in different types of laboratories with clean environments to study toxins accurately. Some tools they might use to do this are the blood gas analyzer that analyzes the number of toxic gases in someone's blood or the high-pressure liquid chromatography which helps scientists locate different components in toxins and identify them.

Since forensic toxicology is science you are obviously going to have to go to college to get into this profession. The minimum schooling requirement is a bleacher's degree which is usually four years however most toxicologists have a master's degree which is an extra 1-2 years depending on the major. There is not a certain major that is required for forensic toxicologists however it does have to be a science. The most common ones are chemistry, forensics, pharmacology, etc. Regardless of your major, you do need to have a background and knowledge about the sciences included in forensic toxicology.
