Many clubs are looking to emergency grants that was used by the likes of Glasgow life to help over 60 community clubs restart following the pandemic On top of this, there may be clubs members asking their friends and families to sponsor them to undertake physical activity possible during the pandemic to raise funds for their clubs (e.g. sponsor 10k). I am aware of a few clubs utilising 'Easy Fundraising' to generate some additional funds for their clubs also to help through this time, as we know every penny counts, this is a give back service from online shopping where organisations give a donation contribution to a chosen charity, in this case the sports organization.

German Basketball Fundraiser Campaign #standasone30

When the basketball season in Germany was cut short at the beginning of the year, the basketball team in my home town Trier launched a fundraising campaign in order to raise 30.000,00 € to make up for the lost revenue they had counted on had the season been carried out as per usual. Under the Hashtag #standasone30, the home game announcer put up 30 livestreams in 30 days, inviting current and former players, coaches, staff and stakeholders to speak on the stream. He interviewed them about basketball in general and about basketball in Trier specifically. Thousands of peolpe tuned in to these live streams, having the chance to ask the guests on the streams questions. As some of the former players of the team even went on to play in the NBA, the streams were hugely successful.

Supporters were able to buy virtual tickets to support the cause, starting at 30€, and the campaign raised sufficient funds for the team to retain their league license for the next season. I think that this safe (socially distanced) and entertaining way of supporter engagement was very well executed and really gave the supporters something in return for their contributions. The link is in German, but google translate should be able to get the overall concept across if anyone is interested ;)

Use fundraising to make up for lost Club revenue and fundraising activities during the covid-19 crisis

Taking small sports clubs as an example, fund-raising activities can be divided into the internal environment and external environment. The internal environment includes that key personnel involved in fund-raising should have core competencies, such as self-improvement, social competence, professional knowledge, methodological competence, and professional competence. Important management requirements, such as the use of databases and easy access to all necessary information, as well as internal and external communication, are important. Fundraising organizations also need to fully understand the changing needs of their external environment to be successful. External influences and personal characteristics will determine the donor's decision to contribute.

In my opinion, the primary task of using fund-raising to make up for the loss of income is to develop a fund-raising plan so that the organization can specify its core values in the form of a mission statement. The task must provide a philosophical basis that is linked to the information gathered from the audit and can be used to set clear goals and achievable goals to convince trustees, volunteers, employees, and contributors that they have a clear plan of what needs to be done and how to do it. It is important to consider the uniqueness of organizational reasons so that they can be distinguished from other organizations.

We should be familiar with Riot Games. League of heroes is a game of the company. During the outbreak of the new coronavirus, the company raised $400000 for medical aid around the world and launched charity fundraising activities in online leagues, such as purchasing skin and goods, which are also a small part of the fund-raising activities. 100% of the money in the league is spent on a non-profit Fund (Riot Games Social Influence Fund), which is provided to charitable organizations in communities around the world.

I actually just saw that on Facebook and made me even more happy to be a Stirling Student.
The sports union raised money for United Nations Foundation as a Covid-19 relief fund. Their initial goal was £1000 and that managed to raise £2658 (£1334 before matching with facebook). There were 22 participating sports teams who posted 30 videos exemplifying good social-distancing during exercising.
I think it was a wonderful initiative to use sports as a mean to raise funds for a bigger cause, such as this pandemic
PS: Kudos to Gill for leading the sports union as a president during that time! Proud of you :)

I know this is fundraising did not profit the Sports Union monetarily since they donated the funds, but as Sarah mentioned in her lecture, it could be viewed as a form of CSR, build a positive brand, reach and engage with the public.
-Anastasia

The Sports Council for Glasgow is an organisation which looks after all the sports clubs in the Glasgow area.
As with many other organisations, the SCG is facing serious funding challenges following covid-19 and has started on a number of solutions including Amazon smile, the Coop Community Fund and a members lottery. Whilst these are all small on their own the hope is it will tide the organisation over until more secure funding can be located again.

A water sport charity is using an event to fundraise during this difficult period. The club has set a challenge of a 7,500 mile row in an effort to regain income which was lost. Adventure, Help and Opportunities for Youth (AHOY) is set to loose £400,000 through the cancellation of major events due to Covid. The organization is looking for donations and aiming to achieve £1 for every mile which is rowed. The club will fall short this year however is looking for a sponsor to help with the effort to raise funds. A sponsor company would allow the club to grow the reach of their donors and attract more funds.
