Include you child:

Wait for your child to pull your hand/ look at you

Interprete:

Giggle or move, say “you found me”

Imitate:

Copy their sounds and movements

Intrude playfully:

- Say something funny “youre so silly”

- Pop your head too soon or too late

Context: Hairdressing toys

1. Repeat: sing the song (e.g this is the way of cut cut cut…) (based on wheels on the bus song)

2. Offer opportunities: sing the song and pause (e.g this is the way we (pause))

3. Cue: showing the gesture of snipping action

4. Use excitement tone to keep it fun and repeat

R: repeat same part of song a few times (up&down)

O: pause, look expectantly

C: singing + gesture, say /sh/....

K: move to different part of song, change words & gestures

Toy Play (4Is)

Toy/ object: Food toys

Include: Child takes 'onion toy' and names it upon entering play area. Teacher repeats 'onion' and joins in

Interpret: Child wants to play with food toy

Imitate: Teacher takes pumpkin toy and labels it - looking at the toy then at the child - child says pumpkin!

Intrude: Teacher playfully pretends to bite onion and says 'spicy' with gesture. Child looks and passes another food toy and says, 'here'

Context: Play area

Play: Stacking and Crashing blocks while saying "more/up"

1. Repeat the action of stacking 1/2 blocks

2. Offer opportunities - keep silent

3. Follow the child's cue - look out for the child to say "more/up" or hand-pull etc

4. Keep it going! Stack 1/2 blocks again

Include your child interest: the nursery rhyme (e.g. wheels on the bus)

Interpret: The child gesture action like bus wiper.

Imitate: The adult can imitate the child's action and model the words (e.g. swish, swish)

Intrude playfully: Change the lyrics to something that the child likes (e.g. elephant on the bus, can change the phase of the song)
