It is so easy to lose that dream sometimes when you have a very difficult student, your test scores aren't where you want them, or your kiddos come is so low, you question how you can even get started. However when you are able to talk about that with your team, they can help you find a way to meet that student that's giving you trouble, ideas and strategies to try in your classroom to reach your kiddos. Collaboration and adaptiveness are big components in meeting your kids and growing as a teacher and/or leader.

What are some ideas for finding time to meet with a leadership team without taking away from teaching time?

I love this! I need to be a better leader beyond the classroom by stepping out of my comfort zone.

Accept responsibility for student learning! Being an expert in my craft does not just include my standards/curriculum. It also means that I must create a positive culture for learning inside and outside of my classroom while developing meaningful relationships with students, colleagues, and administrators. The latter can have just as much of an effect on student learning as standards/curriculum.

It is so important it is to do your best today, think about what went right and what went wrong, and then take the steps to do better tomorrow. Teaching is a community activity. I keep my own wheel going by remembering to connect in a give and take with our teaching community. Sometimes we get so bogged down and locked inside our own classrooms (literally- too many working lunches!) and we lose our passion and drive. I thrive on staying connected with others and the community.
