St. Basil's Cathedral, Russia

Saint Basil's Cathredal in Moscow was built between 1555 and 1561. It was commisioned by Tsar Ivan IV, also known as Ivan the Terrible.

The cathedral was built to commemorate the capture of the Khanate Of Kazan in 1552

The structure consists of red bricks and white stone used for the foundation. The cathedral's distinctive appearance have onion-shaped domes that are made of metal and painted with colorful patterns

Did you know? The colorful domes represent the different chapels within the cathedral, and each dome is a symbol for the assault on the city of Kazan

Legend has it that the cathedral’s builder was blinded post-construction so that a structure of it’s beauty could never be built again
