The epicenter was 25 km west of the costal capital, shallow 13km depth.

It is considered as the poorest country in the western hemisphere, most of the Haitians live on less than 2$ per day, 80% below the poverty line. the country is ranked about 150 out of more than 180 countries in the world on the HDI scale.
