         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Calusa Indians started to diminish and die out in the late 1700's. According to the paragraph, "What happened to the Calusa?", many of them&nbsp; were captured and sold for slaves. They also died out from diseases brought by the Spanish and French explorers called smallpox and measles. People believe that the little but some remaining Indians left for Cuba when the Spanish Indians put Florida in to Great Britain's hands in 1763! Wow, it's crazy to believe that we are living in a state that used to be controlled by the British people.<br><br>Great answer.  You did an excellent job citing evidence from the text.</div>]]></description>

These diseases were brought over by the early explorers.  The Native Americans were not immune to these diseases.  Whole tribes were wiped out.  Great job!<br><br></div>]]></description>
