Reading literature such as Beowulf, Julius Caesar, and Paradise Lost evokes a change in the typical perception of monsters and heroes because reading literature that investigates other’s lives allows one to literally put themselves into another person’s shoes; in doing this they can explore the more complex, more difficult lives of others which can make them have more empathy and understanding of another life.

Topic Sentence: In reading Beowulf people put themselves into the shoes of Beowulf the "hero" that slew the "monster"; they see that in the end his pride gets the best of him and this causes the reevaluation of who the true monster and hero in the story is.
Evidence: Hrothgar states pride leads to the downfall of mankind (1760) and once people see pride and those who posses it are the true monsters their perception changes.
Analysis: Humans recognize their flaws of inhumanity in monsters which enables them to become aware of their own monsters within.

Good idea for your thesis, Mary. Instead of quoting the quote in your thesis, paraphrase it.
