Art made by AI won Fine Arts Competition

AI-generated artwork won an art competition in the US in September 2022 and sparked controversy and fury among artists.

The winning artwork, submitted by Jason Allen, was created using the Midjourney program in combination with AI Gigapixel.
The result came in first and won a 300 dollar cash prize.

Artists all over the world gave their opinions on social media, with a common view that Allen wasn’t an artist and didn’t create the artwork himself so his art shouldn’t have been accepted in the competition.
Many people also believed that AI-generated art should have been classified differently, saying it threatened the work of the human artists.

Allen stated that he made the artwork on the computer and that he filed it under “Digital Art”. He also mentioned that the work was created with AI.

A Colorado newspaper reported that two judges were unaware that Allen’s submission was AI-generated, but they added that it wouldn’t have changed their decision because they were looking for “how the art told a story and how it invoked a spirit” instead.

Written by Annelies

A big Alzheimer breakthrough

Science took a great step forward in the search to slow down the Alzheimer disease.
They found a new drug to slow the disease.
Lecanemab works by clearing a protein that builds up in the brains of people who have Alzheimer.
They did tests and it seems that it was found to slow cognitive decline, a development described as “a major step forward for dementia researc."
Like any drug, Lecanemab also has side effects. Most are mild, such as feverish symptoms or headaches. But some people also showed serious side effects from the drug, such as brain hemorrhages. Therefore, side effects are an important topic of follow-up research. It is not sure if the medicine will appear in our country because it's not safe to use it right now.
To be continued...
Separately, an international study of Alzheimer’s disease found 75 genes associated with the disease, including 42 that were not previously linked. Identifying specific risk genes and the part they play in brain cell death could pave the way to new therapies.

Another important study gave seven habits that people can adopt to cut the risk of developing dementia: exercising regularly; eating healthily; not smoking; maintaining a healthy weight; keeping blood pressure in check; having healthy cholesterol levels; and maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.

Written by Gundi

In February last year, the war between Russia and Ukraine began, which continues to this day. It is difficult to say how many people were killed, injured or missing, but everyone knows, that millions of people of different ages, religions and even nationalities suffer and are forced to migrate. Military operation have not only consequences in the form of destruction and dead people. In my opinion, the war affects and will affect the economic and geopolitical situation in different countries and the consequences we will have for a long time. The interests of the United States and China are involved in this “case”, and if for these countries there is no direct physical impact of the war, but, I think, it is they who are interested in the development of war. Given the various media sources, I do not think, that there are parties interested in ending of war, although there are plans to supply and deliver weapons to Ukraine and raise funds for the reconstruction of the country. Which is very controversial, but has a benefit for some countries. When I remember the death of president Kennedy, who was against war, I think that the history doesn’t changed and there are some group of people who wants to continue and divide the power, money and territories.
