DO NOW:
1.) WHY the Slave Codes passed in the British colonies?
2.) HOW did Slave Codes restrict the lives of slaves?
3.) As a result, WHAT was now the basis of slavery in colonial America?

1. Slave Codes were passed in the colonies once the slaves began to rebel and now the treatment of slaves was much worse, bc the slave codes basically made it clear the difference between a white person and a black person. This was effective to the colonial economy.

2. Slave codes restrict the lives of slaves because their were laws that restricted/reinforced what they could and couldn't do. Once the social roles were apparent. Slaves weren't allowed to stay out pass certain hours of the night and so on. The state laws established the status of slaves or just dark people. and justified the rights of a slaves owner. other restrictions were whipping rights, slaves could not hit back, it was illegal to teach a slave how to read or write , they cant own property, can not marry without permission, or buy nor sell goods. all of this was ways to control.

3. The result of slave codes, was a richer economy. After Africans had been viewed as animals or inhuman. and the slave owner or the overseer could treat them any way they wanted. They could easily get dozens of slaves to work for them, with no pay or freedom and such. There was no laws to protect the slaves, only laughed the oppressed them. therefore free labor and all you have to do is feed and keep them sheltered. (such as how you would keep maintenance to cattle) .... so after all that is established, & the product comes in, your able to profit. and then slavery becomes the basis for economic increase. mostly in the south and kind of in the middle. but indentured servitude was still kind of practiced in the new England area or other industries.

1. Slave codes were passed in British colonies so the slaves won't get out of hand (since there were so many) and they won't rebel against their masters.

2. Slave codes restricted the lives of slaves by making it just about impossible for them to leave and live how they want to. They weren't allowed out after a certain amount of time , they were separated by the tone of their skin ( light vs. dark ), no trading amongst them , no marriage , and no education.

3. The basis of slavery in colonial America felt that they could treat them anyway they want to. They could take advantage of them since they're uneducated, afraid and are working for free.

1. The slave codes were passed in order to surpress anymore possible slave rebellions. The number of slave rebellions worried slave owners and so they enacted these slave codes to deter rebellions. 2. The slaves were restricted in that they could be separated from their family at anytime, they werent allowed to be taught to read or write and they were now rarely allowed to be free and might work for life. 3. As a result, the basis for slavery in the colonies was to keep the Slaves repressed even more than before as well as keep them working for economic gain as long as possible.
