My generation is lucky, because we have been able to travel and we gained enough language skills to be able to search the world. Does that make a global citizen? My parents didn't have that chance. And since the world is somehow getting smaller and more unsafer, my kids might not have that chance, either. I think it is possible to teach skills to be a global citizen to my students even if they didn't travel. The world is changing so rapidly, that our environments at our home towns are changing. We hear new languages and meet new cultures more often in our everyday life at home. This course remains me, that I have to have a perspective to understand, that my school is not school for only Finnish origin kids, I and the other staff need to have skills to welcome everybody. If we have something suitable for only certain group of kids, can we still keep it? Should we open our thinking, habits and traditions so, that everyone can join them?

Today we had an interesting discussions about global citizenship. To understand each other should we first understand own culture and background well. Today the schools are often intercultural where children come from many different cultures and speak many languages as their mother tongue. The schools are like small societies where many different cultures, religions and languages are represented. The every day school life is more or less global.
After the discussion we had again French lesson. The language is so beautiful, but the pronunciation is difficult. I wish to learn more...
St Anne village was beautiful like all the places on this island! The pokit was a good experience!

Global citizenship - we discussed what it meant nowadays. Not to forget - at first you need to understand and identify your own culture. It is crucial. Sometimes people do not remember about their own background. They even underestimate their cultural background and its importance. People travel all over the world looking for better future for them and their children. Their children live in new suroundings and they easily forget their mother tongue. They do not realize that their mother tongue is a valuable asset - apart of their cultural heritage, which is worth preserving.
