The students calculated how far the marshmallow would travel to be able to hit a target. We held a tournament at the end of the project which was a lot of fun! The students then did an personal reflection using Flipgrid (SSS - Success, Struggle, Surprise) where they talked about something that was successful in the project, something they struggled with, and something they were surprised by. Students were given the option of a variety of beaks (binder clip, clothes pin, fork, spoon, and forceps/ tweezers) and 4 food sources (macaroni, paper clip, rubber bands, and toothpicks). They were timed for 20 second at each island with a different food source. They had to compete with their neighbors to get the most food in their stomach (cup). Class data was gathered on a shared Google Sheets document.
