In Escape From East Berlin by Andy Marino, the author gives insight into the time of the Berlin Wall in 1961. The book gives many gripping fictional historical accounts of people escaping from East Berlin. The book follows the dangerous journey of many different people throughout the book, and suspense abounds continuously throughout the book. With vivid descriptions, detail, and expert storytelling. Marino recounts the family's desperate attempts to escape and evade the watchful eyes of the East German authorities and make their way to freedom. This story gives great insight and shows a compelling portrait of the human spirit's determination to overcome even the most insurmountable obstacles in the pursuit of freedom.

The book Escape from East Berlin and the book Night are similar because they are both told from the view of a kid who had to go through a traumatic experience. Both main characters have to try to get out and survive a horrible incident. For example in night the main character had to live through the terrifying concentration camp while Marta the other main character has to try to escape the wall of East Berlin and get to the other side. Both characters and stories have many people being killed, for example the Nazis and the Stasi killed many innocent people because they were deprived of their human rights. Both books demonstrate deep dehumanization. Finally, both characters are separated from their family.

In 1948 the Soviet Union started to erect a wall that split East and West Berlin. This caused many problems for both the East and the West side. The wall was a cold war for the United States and the Soviet Union. All of the allies of the soviet union maintained free access to Germany. In November of 1958, Nikita Khrushchev wanted the United States and the allies to give up their role in Berlin. This barrier divided the nation for 28 years. The wall constructed in 1961 and it's eventually fell in 1989. the article goes over the separation of families and the tragic deaths of people trying to escape.

¨Choose a scene from the book that reveals accurate historical details. Did history unfold accurately in your book?¨ Throughout the book, many events occur that correspond to actual events that happened in real life. For example, on page 2, it says, ¨There have been stories in the Neues Deutschland newspaper of border crossers losing their lives. Spies and agents of the Americans, the paper claims. Criminals, deserters, and traitors (Page #2) This quote shows accurately real events that happened within East Berlin, like Hans Konrad Schumann, a border guard who escaped East Berlin and was in a very famous photo.

This image shows a man who is happy when he sees land and another man who is really happy to see a boat. This connects to what shapes a person and their perspective because from one of the man's perspective he is happy to see land because of the fact he thinks he can rest and be safe but another man is really happy because he sees a boat and can leave. This shows what shapes a person and perspective because due to different scenarios. This shows what scenario you are in can shape your perspective on different things.

This image gives a great perspective because it shows how society works in a world like East Berlin. It shows how many people are sheep, only following what the government says because they fear for their lives. But those who are willing to risk their lives for freedom have a high risk. Many people are slaves to the tyrannical government and kneel to them. But there are people who are different and realize the evil of that government and decide to hopefully change their lives for the better.
