This is a tool that some of my learners use on a daily basis, and all of my learners are expected to use for some of our assignment work. My students who have limited literacy skills and who struggle with finding an access point in our learning, are able to use this assistive technology to engage more consistently in their work and it also enables them to independently record their thoughts, when they would otherwise need to rely on a scribe. I also make the use of this toolbar a requirement for all of my learners whenever we are using Google Docs for written work. The students are expected to use the toolbar to listen to their written work as a part of the proofreading and revision process. My students just completed an independent research project and some of my more tech savvy students were even using the highlighting tools to gather their information. Some of my ELL students also really do well with the built in supports like the picture dictionary. It does take quite a bit of front end loading to get the students to become proficient users of the toolbar, but it truly has been a game changer for my struggling students in particular. That being said, it has something to offer learners of all ability levels. For me, I feel every elementary student should have access to this extension. It saddens me that it isn't going that way.
