Once the 15th amendment became active, African Americans took an active role into politics. Since then it helped African Americans get their voice out into the political scene and it successfully progressed them, fro a while. Hiram Revels and other selected African Americans showed that African Americans can participate in politics successfully.

Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 15, 1865. It left the US conflicted with mixed emotions. It is said that if he were to survive the assassination that he'd still have control over Congress.Lincoln's death in my opinion is the most impactful thing in our nation.

Reconstruction: Success or Failure?

I think that Reconstruction was a success, to a degree, whilst there were many ups and downs along the way, it did eventually grow out of the rough stage significantly and brought us where we are today. By having Congress enforce many acts upon the South, it probably managed a domino effect and that's why over the years many protests and civil rights movements became very active. I mean even though racism isn't going to officially die out because of ignorant people. we've actually come a long way; the whole idea was to make African Americans have the equal rights like we do... And BAM! Obama becomes president whilst I was growing up.

I also think Reconstruction was a success because it possibly accomplished more than the two president's plan. Although, there were some good parts of the plans and the actions that played after, Congress' enforcement actually put things into perspective. Their passion in trying to achieve something that seemed so impossible to many rocketed(I may or may not be exaggerating, it's my opinion) and they actually helped out the African Americans. The Freedmen's Bureau is like the biggest achievement to me, besides the amendments, because it helped them and it benefited them. So yeah......I think that's why Reconstruction was a success.

After the Civil War, Lincoln proposed the 10% plan to make it easier readmitting the seceded states; whilst it was a very lenient plan, Johnson upped the percentage to 50% and added a pardon application after his assassination. Albeit the the change, he still pardoned all who applied for it and continued the leniency. Soon after Congress took over and started to enforce acts amongst the states that didn't follow their rules. Congress' plan actually laste longer than the two stated above and managed to do more progress, to a degree, than the proposed plans.
