1. The dialect Homer used and the way he described the setting of the stories hints at the time period and the place Homer lived in, but neither his birthplace nor his birth date can be identified because no one knows if Homer existed in the first place.
For example, the dialect of The Iliad and The Odyssey are considered Asiatic Greek, specifically Ionic, meaning
Homer could have been bron in Ionia.

2. Guesses at his birth date range from 750 BC all the way back to 1200 BC. The guess of 1200 BC was bench marked around the time of the Trojan war, which was the subject of The Iliad. However, Homer's poetic style and dialect indicated a much later time period of 750 BC.

3. Homer's identity was mostly derived from his stories. Demodokos was one of the characters in Homer's stories. Demodokos was a blind poet/minstrel who brought music to gatherings and told epic tales similar to Homer who was considered more of a singer of ballads that he may or may not have composed himself than a poet. Because of Demodokos, Homer was thought to be blind by most people.

4. It is thought that Homer only took stories passed down orally from different groups of people and recited one story
from a combination of the ones he heard.

5. If Homer was the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, he has had a great influence on the basis of Greek education and culture through the Classical age to the time of the Roman empire and the spread of Christianity.

(Knowledge from last year) One of the values depicted in the Odyssey was bringing gifts when visiting the homes of others.

6. The number of epithets used to describe a major god, hero, or other object was based solely on the rhytmic context of the poem or how much space Homer wanted to dedicate his hexameter (six foot) verse to it.

This means that Homer had no
altnerative meaning in adding more specification or detail about a subject.

1. Not much is known about Homer, however, some scholars believe he was born sometime from 750 BC to 1200 BC.
2. Many of Homer's aspects mainly came from his poems. But, the statues that have been carved of him have curly hair and sightless eyes.
3. Homer used in his stories many figurative languages like similes and metaphors. Also, he used a structuring device called in media res which means to start in the middle and then fill in the rest of the information from there.
