"Then Jesus came to Galilee to John at the River Jordan to be baptized by him. John tried to prevent him, saying, 'I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?' It is said that archaeologists located the relative location almost exactly where it took place. They said that there are ancient ruins of a church dedicated to John the Baptist on the eastern bank of the Jordan River.

At the River Jordan, Jesus got baptized by John the Baptist, and many people had witnessed this. In Matthew's Gospel, it is also said that as Jesus got baptized, the heavens were opened for the people to see. God had spoken out saying that Jesus was his son, who is the Messiah.
