Causes of Over fishing

One main cause of over fishing is that many places have open access to fishing. Few or no laws are placed to prevent fisherman from over fishing. Only 1.6% of our oceans are protected by the marines, and 90% of this is open to fishing. Also a growing population can cause over fishing because of high demand for food and more supply would be needed. Meaning to fish even more. Some fishing industries carry massive ships that is capable of catching huge amounts of fish. Perspectives of different groups and individuals can also have an impact on over fishing. For example, fisheries would have an economic perspective. They want profit so they would catch even more fish to receive more money of them. Lack of awareness for over fishing can be involved because not enough people are informed and so less people would stand up and do something about this worldwide crisis.

Over fishing is when fish are being caught at a faster rate than fish can reproduce. Over fishing is not a very sustainable use of our oceans. Over fishing can lead to the extinction of a specie. Fish is a major and valuable food source and we can't afford to lose it.

World Wild Life or WWF for short have an environmental perspective on over fishing. They want to improve on how we use the oceans, to use it more sustainably. They believe it could affect the sea food chain and cause a major damage in the ecosystem. It could affect nations who strongly rely on fish for their gains by economic loss. It could also bring extinction to a specie or several ones.

Fisheries have an economic perspective on over fishing because they want the most profit out of it. For example krill is very special because it can cure several diseases. This will increase the demand of krill causing it to be over fished. It would be aimed more and fisheries would selll this for a lot of money.

We would have a social perspective on over fishing. Fish contains omega 3, which is essential for the human body. It carries nutrients that our body cannot produce. Fish is also a big food source. It can easily be caught near shores for people who can't afford to buy food. Fisherman also fish for fun or competitively and without enough fish, this is not possible.

They make fisheries more sustainable. They founded MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) which help to find sustainable fisheries. Almost 15,000 seafood goods with over $3 billion annual sales hold the MSC Label. They did this so that fishing companies have less impact on the environment but still give enough food for future generations.

Fisheries are being encouraged to stick to their quota for fishing. They are only allowed to fish on particular days. They are discouraged to catch small fish to allow them to grow. This will help fish to breed and reproduce more and keep the food chain stable. Now in some places the fishing and reproduction rate are equal. Although not every place follow these rules.

We can spread the word about this issue and raise awareness. Do a little bit of researching about over fishing, get updated on what is currently happening. You can join organizations like WWF that help to prevent these kind of problems. One person can't fix this problem, but if we joined together and get more people, we can make a difference. This could take effect in a good way and help reduce over fishing and we could be one step closer to obliterate over fishing .Although this could possibly cause protest and violence because of disagreements between fisheries and the government.
