The story tells about a kid who lives in Everington, England. The Context is that there´s a crisis in the mine business and the mines are gonna close. Billy´s Dad and Billy´s brother are miners, and they´re on the picket line. Billy lives wiith his dad, his brother and his nan. His mother died, it doesn´t say how. Jackie wants Billy to do boxing, but Billy doesm´t want to. One day he goes to the ballet calssroom to deliver something to the teacher, Mrs. Wilkinson,  and takes part of the class and liikes it, so he wants to keep going, but his dad and brother would kill him if the knew. But he goes again anyway.
His best friend, Michael, is the only one that knows about the ballet classes.
Later on Jackie discovers Billy´s little secret and doesn´t let him go.
Some time later, Mrs. Wilkinson signs Billy on an audition for the Royal Ballet School. When  Jackie discovers this, he gets angry, but later, he thinks about Billy´s future and let´s Billy go to the audition.

The teachers want to have better salaries and the teachers who work in public schools want to improve the education. They are against some reforms stablished by the government.
Some PEPSICO workers were fired and they wanted to get their jobs again.
