In my country (CRO) ECTs are teachers on the beginning of their work days. They are called "apprentices" and they are mentored by a more experienced teacher (min. 10 years of experience). They are mentored only the first year. This includes classes to watch and classes to hold with their mentor. The headteacher and pedagogue visit 4 classes during the first year.

In order to be hired in the public system, teachers have to pass a rigorous, competitive, examination process. Many teachers spend a few years studying for this exam, and by the time they enter the public system, they have been working for private schools for a couple of years. As a result, private schools have a higher teacher turnover, and therefore, a higher percentage of Early Career Teachers than the public system. There are no standard regulations for how we treat Early Career Teachers in Spain, that is dependent upon the school. All new staff have weekly meetings with the Head of Studies their first year at our school, but we have no mentorship system in place.
