“Now that will do. I just ain’t going to have you ‘round here reciting the scriptures in vain-- you hear me?" (46) This shows that mama doesn’t tolerate behavior when someone goes against God and uses his name disrespectful in her house.

“Well -- I guess you better not waste your time with no fools.” (8) This shows that Mama wants the best for everyone. She is a very loving and caring person and doesn’t want anyone to do anything they don’t want to.

I think that Mama is a good person. I saw that Mama has always tied her hardest to make everyone happy. She speaks her mind when she wants something to be done her way. She never says never, she will go through all the challenges to get to her goal. Finally, she was a major roll model to her kids and let them know right from wrong and had them remember to always stick up for yourself rather then listen to the people that would give your a million reasons no to do something she taught them to do what they want if it's the right thing.

Garden (Post 4)

I chose this picture of a garden. I chose this picture because there was an act in the play when Mama had bought the new house, and the kids all bought Mama gifts for her getting them the house. Well, Mama has always said she wants to have her own garden, I feel like a garden represents Mama because when you pass by a garden you feel happy and its a very pretty sight. Mama has such a pretty soul and is always happy. This is why I chose a garden to represent Mama.

Poem (Post 5)

"I will rise to protect the rights of others

I will fight by their side like they were my sisters and brothers

I won’t cast them out with shame they don’t deserve

All they ask is to love the one most special to them in this world

Love shouldn’t be divided by man or woman, one component or unit

People who think that way are narrow minded and need to see through it

I will fight, I will guide, until their rights are free

I won’t give up, I continue for equality"

I chose this poem because it relates to Mama. This relates to Mama because she always wants the best, she wants everyone to be treated equally. Mama has always been against segregation. This is why I chose this quote because it talks about how everyone should be treated equally. This is why I chose this poem to represent Mama.

Song (Post 6 & 7)

I chose this song because I think it relates best to Mama. I think this relates best because in the song it talks only about how far someone will go for the right thing, it talks about all the struggles but in the end you get to the place you go because you know it is the right thing. The song has lyrics that go "I know everybody on this island has a role, on this island... So maybe I can roll with mine". This part of the song reminds me of mama because it is saying how everyone has a role to do their own thing, and that you also have a role so you should just deal with it. Mama had a role, she noticed that the living style the Younger's were dealing with had been way to cramped and she had to do something about it. This is why I think this song best fits Mama.

Theme (Post 8)

The theme of A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry is Injustice/ Racism and it can be shown when Walter was talking to mama in the beginning about how poor colored people are. When Walter was having a conversation with his mom he started to get upset and angered at the fact that “... [Walter has] been married eleven years and … [Walter’s] got a boy who sleeps in the livingroom -- and all … [Walter’s] got to give him is stories about how rich white people live…” (34). This quote is showing Racism / Injustice because it is giving the exact words of how Walter feels that he is colored and how he compares his living style to whites. Also, it is saying how he is ashamed of his broke lifestyle, Walter does not like the fact that he has to tell Travis stories about how great white people live and has to relate whites life's to blacks. This is why I chose Racism / Injustice to be the theme of A Raisin in the Sun.
