Jesus is merciful, forgiving, and loving

Seeing that Zacchaeus is only a small person with a humongous problem with his way of living, he does not seem to be deserving of forgiveness as he is regarded as a thief who has fooled and possibly ruined the lives of a lot of people by taking more of what is only needed in their money. However, it is merely among the human eyes that we view such a person as unforgiving. Jesus Christ is different. He saw that despite of Zacchaeus’ small figure, he had a big heart. A contrite heart that is ready change and accept Jesus as His Lord and saviour. Jesus saw what others cannot see and touched the heart of those who are untouchable.

God revealed Himself to us by sending His only begotten son on Earth to bring salvation. Jesus did not choose to live as a king but instead, he chose to live among the sinners. Like in the story of Zacchaeus, everyone in Jericho anticipated His arrival and yet He chose to stay in the house of a Zacchaeus, a man who was well known to have continuously done an unlawful act unto his neighbor. What struck me the most when Jesus had brought salvation in his house. This showed how truly merciful and forgiving God is. He saw how willing Zacchaeus is to undergo repentance through his change of heart and as a shepherd, Jesus knew that He had to herd him back to God by way of forgiveness. Moreover, Jesus is also a loving God because love comes with forgiveness. He loved and cared for us which is why He came to seek out and save what was lost. He knew how much we needed God in our lives but after distinguishing how ignorant we are, He continued to share the good news of the Lord in order to save us from sin.

In my experience, I also have encountered the time wherein I struggled in living with my faith. I had been greatly influenced by my friends who are unbelievers of Christ. Instead of becoming the good influence in them, I changed horribly. I became the kind of person who is always angry at what the world is constantly giving me. I encountered going to different fights with my friends and family. It has reached the point wherein my mom became sick of my actions which is why she told me to leave the house. She disowned me as her daughter. I cried and realized how big the hole in my heart is. I was lacking something and that is my faith in God. I became so selfish that I have forgotten about God. I forgot how to love. I came back to our church. I was lead to join the youth service and I repented. I learned to become a new person as I found joy in serving the church. Now, I have finally gotten my relationship back with both my mom and God.

In the story, Jesus portrayed the nature of humans of being forgiving. We humans tend to forgive someone even though he/she did something awful to us knowing that he/she sincerely apologized and gave us the assurance of not doing it again. In the story, Zacchaeus repented and gave up to Jesus all of his belongings which symbolizes him giving up his life to Jesus and assuring Him that he will change his life. Furthermore, Jesus also portrayed the nature of humans to love one another. Regardless the race, the stand and the acts of each of us, with love, we humans tend to forget all of those factors and see each other as one of our own.

"He who sees the invisible"

Using my understanding from the Story of God's Salvation to Zacchaeus', the image of God that resonated the most was someone who sees the invisible. Of all the big and tall crowd, He saw Zacchaeus who was small. Of all the people who He can see, He looked up to see Zacchaeus. Of all the houses He can visit, He chose to go to Zacchaeus'.

The "invisibility" in the story does not depict negativity rather, it is an invisibility that the people and Zacchaeus himself cannot see. It is the uniqueness of his own soul. He may be small enough to see Jesus because of the tall crowd, but the effort to climb a a tree just to see Jesus was something else. Zacchaeus having a napoleonic complex is what lead him to stood up to benoticed by God. He then realizes that he has other abilities that can stand out that other people are not capable to do.

Comparing myself to Zacchaeus, I, myself have eperience napoleonic as well because I have my own flaws as well. But I do also have different skills that others are not capable to do. Using the verse:
John 13:16 “Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.”
it only means that God created us all equally with a unique soul.

In the video clip, Jesus had shown that you will always be known by him no matter what is your job, your standing in the society or do you believe in him in being the messiah. You will always have a space for him, you have the same right to be forgiven and he will guide you in the right path when your are in the darkest part of your life. Even if you are the most sinner he believes in you, in the soul that you have that there is always a space that is hidden in your faith in him and in the God almighty.

This things that Jesus had shown in the story had proven on what kind of person he is, it also that justifies why do we need to believe in him and why would we trust him throughout our life.
Jesus: the most compassionate, loving, forgiving, and understanding friend

From the story, it shows how Zacchaeus persist in seeking to see Jesus regardless of how his fellowmen see him and how hard it is for him to really see Jesus because of his height liability. Despite his condition, it does not hinder him to do something he really wants which is seeing God. Zacchaeus is a sinner, just as how his fellowmen describe him. Nobody ever looked up at Zacchaeus until the time when he really craved for recognition that he entered into something which only led him to betray his God and his fellowmen. But despite all the sins, failures, and mistakes Zacchaeus have done, Jesus looked beyond such. Jesus looked up to someone not being looked up to. He does not look on the physical attributes of a person, but what lies deep within. He looks not on the outward appearance, but in the heart.

If I were to compare myself to Zacchaeus, that is the time when I felt like a failure and that I cannot do anything because of my shortcomings. We all struggle in so many different ways and overcoming those struggles is never easy. Everyone feels helpless and alone when they are in the quicksand of a struggle, just as how I felt at that very moment when I thought I could not do anything about it. But at the end of the day, I asked for God’s guidance and there, I realized that there is no reason to give up and that I just have to keep going. Let those struggles of yours be an inspiration for you to pursue what has been started. Jesus is always there to guide us. No matter how many mistakes and sins we have done, Jesus is always willing to forgive us and let us feel that He loves us and that He cares for us. What struck me the most in the video being watched is the part where Zacchaeus climbed up the sycamore tree just to see Jesus. Not being bothered by his shortcoming, he still looked for a way to see who Jesus is. Comparing it to my own experience, after being so frustrated in the struggle I have been facing, I still think of possible solutions for me to overcome such and being determined to do something I really look forward to.

In addition to that, the part after Jesus looked up at Zacchaeus and greeted him by calling out his name bring about Zacchaeus being surprised. It gave me the realization on how I should treat my friends and all the people around me the warmth welcome that I supposed to do because we, as a human person, should be considerate in other people’s feelings. We do not know every challenges they face in their everyday lives and treating them with respect and letting them feel that they belong would be such a great relief for each and every one of us. To sum it all up, I consider Jesus as the most caring, loving, and forgiving friend of us all. He is always there to stay by our side and He is always there to lift us all up.

Jesus, the door to transformation.

In the movie, I saw Jesus as our door to transformation. Our transformation that will definitely make every single one of us a better person. When Jesus told Zacchaeus that he will be staying at his house, Zacchaeus was delighted to have the son of Man in his home. While they were dining, Zacchaeus suddenly had a change of heart, because of this he gave half of his possessions to the poor, and if he had cheated anybody out of anything, he will pay back four times that amount. Then Jesus literally quotes that he is the door to transformation, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."

Jesus showed us how selfless and forgiving we should be. As He forgave Zacchaeus, He also helped him be a better person. Doing good things to other people such as helping them grow mentally and spiritually would certainly lead to them helping others also grow to be a better person. We should always think about our brothers and sisters, on how we could help them, it is not always about us. We should all learn how to love and appreciate each other. Jesus helps us be the best person we can be that we do not even know we are capable of.
