Guglielmo Marconi was interested at Heinrich Hertz's work at a young age and used what he learned to increase the power of wireless communication. He would work with trial and error, slowly increasing the range he could receive a signal wirelessly. Towards the end of his life, Marconi had radio stations in Great Britain and America, able to send messages back and forth wirelessly. With his advancements in communication the industrial revolution was able to expand from the far faster, cheaper, and easier ways different companies or countries could communicate with each other.

Guglielmo Marconi was born in Italy in 1874. At a young age he became interested in the idea of sending a signal through the telegraph without using wires. He looked in to the work of Heinrich Hertz, the man who discovered an electrical wave can be sent through the air to a receiver. However, his invention only sent the signal less than an inch away. Marconi became very interested in this and studied it for the coming years of his life. He developed new ways of fine tuning the electrical signal sent known today as radio waves. After many years of trial and error, he was able to send messages the distance of 250 miles without wires connecting the two. By 1907 there were stations set up in Great Britain and America that could communicate with each other. Unfortunately Marconi died before his technology became a huge hit. In the early twenties his invention changed the world with the golden age of radio that has helped shape the world we live in today.

Radio communication affected the world during the industrial revolution by allowing for easier communication between whom ever possessed his technology. Before radio, the Telegraph was used to communicate. The telegraph worked well but required long expensive wires to send a message. Telegraph lines would overcrowded cities and become a huge disaster. In the 1930’s, during the golden age of radio, radio had been transformed from Morse code messages to a form of free entertainment talk shows and music played to the millions of listeners and revolutionized the way we get our information and advertisements.

Today radio is used to inform and entertain. National news stations exist on the radio to inform the public of worldly events. But the major use for radio now is entertainment. Radio is used to listen to music mostly as a free form of entertainment. Advertising today is also used to help promote goods and services to the listeners and make more sales for the companies to expand.
