They could just be grouped as academic prizes and pupils could be called onto the stage in no order (value of prizes should be same in that sense)

I am not too sure why other awards dont receive cash prizes. To me, speech day is all about recognition and if all the children are recognized for some kind of effort they have put in (it's a whole year's  worth), then they should all be awarded similarly...

I also feel that we should not announce 1st, 2nd and 3rd and give the same value for the prizes. This is aligned to MOE efforts of reducing over-emphasis on academic results.

Similar to Janaki's idea, I think that we should give a good progress award to students in each class to recognize their efforts. 

As for character awards, I think it would be good if we can announce the Eagles and ECHA recipients. I also strongly agree that we should award and recognize students who have shown progress. 
May I suggest that for the CCA Character Award, in addition to the certificate, can it be accompanied with a small plaque? It is an affirmation of their non-academic achievement and will also reflect the importance the school places on values and character.

I agree with the ladies that we should do away with naming of the positions, similar to the report book so that we are uniform in what we are saying to the parents.

·        Students who have excelled in their studies in the face of adversity, or proved their leadership mettle in a uniformed group.  Bravery,  leadership, resilience, and determination
·        could refore to the awards by the heros or pioneers so could have Elizabeth  Choy /  Lim Bo Seng instead of Lt Adnan

Could have awards named after people representing the qualities,eg acad achievement or progress or character
