This course is valuable to me because it is forcing me to take time to reflect on this past year as a virtual teacher and parent. As Elena Aguilar mentions in her article, The Resilient Educator, " ...I've experienced a great deal of insecurity about my skills, I've learned a whole lot. I know that if I give myself the time and space to truly process, and if I share these reflections with others, I'll emerge from this year stronger than I was at the start of 2020." Without this course, I would not have given myself the time I needed to reflect on what I've learned and how I have grown as an educator. Thank you for this opportunity.

I predict that there will be ideas and opinions that challenge some of my own and that I will learn from my peers and from the materials provided, concepts I have yet to think of. The initial quote "Resilience enables us to thrive, not just survive" really spoke to my hopes when we went into remote in early 2020.

I think it will also give us some other tools we may have not been introduced to based on our grade level, our teaching styles and grade levels, and or our make up of our school population and resources etc. Through this course, my goal is to learn as much new ideas and strategies I can from the resources but also my classmates. I hope to take stuff from this course and put it into my teaching practices and to find useful strategies from this. I hope to help others with new ideas or to think about education from a stand point of someone who works in an at risk/in risk school and the different challenges we may have been presented with.

Prediction:Though I have been successful in online learning myself, I feel I have much to learn about online teaching. I predict through this course that I will become more confident in teaching online which will greatly benefit my students. I also predict that what I learn will benefit my colleagues as I will be able to share what I have learned with them. I also know I will learn from the many experienced educators who are also taking this course. There is such a wealth of knowledge that can already be seen by the responses and feedback in this course. Lastly, I predict that I will come out of this course better prepared if/when what happened over the past 18 months should ever happen again in the future. I really appreciate what the New Hampshire Department of Education is doing to better prepare New Hampshire teachers for the future. Intentions/Goals: I have many intentions/goals for this course. The first is that I am looking forward to learning more online tools that I can use with my students in the classroom and with my colleagues. I also want to better understand the value of online learning and the plethora of online tools to better prepare my students for high school and college. I know by the time they reach high school or college, online learning will be the norm for them. I want to make sure they have the tools in their toolbelt to be successful online learners. My next goal is to have a better understanding of technology in general and to better understand how to solve the problems that arise whether on my own screen or on my students' chromebooks. I don’t want to rely on the old “turn it off then back on” way of solving tech problems though it does work more often than not : )! My final goal is to continue to learn and be a better educator through my final years of teaching.

I predict that this course will help me learn some of the research behind best practices for distance/remote learning, and some strategies to use. I may have to wait to get into the really helpful and useful strategies and such until Module 4 when we can pick an area of interest, but that’s just fine. The research behind best practices will be the same, or easily adapted from general education classrooms to special education. As a special ed teacher, providing direct instruction services to my students remotely was different than my general education peers. Whether I was at the middle school level or the early elementary level (in March 2020 I was teaching middle school and at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year I transferred to K-2), I was essentially using Google Docs to create visuals and the materials I would have used face-to-face. However, at the K-2 level, my students, and their parents, did not know how to manipulate Google to find the documents if I were to share them so the students could “drive”. They would tell me the answer and I would move things. They also didn’t know how to share their screen with me so I could watch them play a skill based game on a website such as ABCya.com.

I intend to use what I learn in this course in face-to-face direct services with my students so they understand how to do everything I would need them to do in the event that we need to engage in remote learning again. My goals include being able to take what I learn and put it into practice. Even if we never go back to remote learning (which I don’t see happening), I’m hoping that I will be able to use some of what I learn in face-to-face direct instruction sessions to prepare students for learning through technology.

This course will be valuable to me in terms of learning about classroom strategies that can be used remotely or in person. Currently I work in early intervention, and I would love to implement some of the strategies used by classroom teachers. Also, I hope to transition back to a classroom teaching position soon and I believe that this course will give me strategies to add to my teaching toolbox.

My hope is that I will gain a better understanding of teaching our youngest learners with these valuable online tools. I intend on using what I will learn from this course as another useful tool in my teaching toolbox to help families. It is valuable to take the time to dive deep into getting to know your families and their unique needs. Not everything is shown on face value and getting to know your families will help to better know the kiddos that we serve. Above everything it is my goal to better reach families of all walks of life to empower them to see that they can help their children reach their developmental milestones.
- June Smith

I predict this course might be valuable to me because it will give me plenty of opportunities to reflect on this past year and all the “teacher madness” that went along with it! I’ll review what I’ve learned about the best practices of remote/ distance learning. I’m predicting this course will help build my confidence in teaching online and help me be prepared for different types of online learning.

My goals for my learning in this course are to gain knowledge about the variety of platforms and resources that are available and effective. I feel what I’ve experienced so far is simply a “drop in the bucket” compared to what really exists out there. I intend to close the gap between what I’ve seen and what’s really out there. These are not things I can learn by myself or with just a few teacher colleagues and friends. I need a wider group of support and knowledge.

I also intend to find ways to address the social/ emotional component of learning online.

-Sally DeCost

I predict that this course will continue to provide me with new ways to keep my students engaged in remote learning. I also predict that these practices will be carried over in to in person learning and that I will find much of it helpful for remote and in person learning. I also predict that this course will help me to be more confident in remote teaching, if I were to ever have to do it again.

My goals are to gain as much knowledge about teaching as I can. I am still a new teacher who is continuing to learn about my profession and grow with it. I welcome any and all information, techniques, and knowledge I can get.

-Abby Guerra

I predict that this course will help me to become more effective in teaching remote. Typically my camera is only on to welcome everyone to class and check in on them. Then I ask if there are any remaining questions from the previous lesson. Give my students a problem of the day that reviews the previous lesson, continue with the new lesson, and finish with addression any questions and concerns from the lesson. I would like to know if this is to rigid and how to incorporate a few more performance bassed lessons into my remote teaching.

My goals are to continue to improve my teaching and lesson creation to best meet the needs of my students. Perhaps become familiar with a few more on line platforms that people find useful in their classrooms,
Rachelle
