Has slavery really been abolished or has it changed in form?
Today, I really appreciated that there are ways to teach about slavery and its suffering without hurting the audience like it is done in the Memorial ACTe Museum in Point-a-Pitre. A nice experience although the topic is hard.

I learnt so many things about slavery by visiting the Memorial Acte museum.
It was really shockimg that Catholicism accepted slavery and the Black Code.
There are so many slaves even today in our so called advanced world, with China, India and Russia ranking first.
Unfortunately, the past has not taught us anything...or even if it has, it can be easily forgotten in the name of profit...

First af all, it was nice to learn that Unesco and the French Government funded the construction of this amazing museum.
Slavery was abolished in 1848... typically but not entirely.
Napoleon said that the stomach of the slaves was not ready for the food of liberty...extremely impressive quote.
In the Black code it was said that the slaves' children belonged to their masters' wife.

Today messed with my emotions....
It's always very interesting to be part of it and not be apart, the public bus ride to Point-a-Pitre makes us visitors, not tourists... it mixes us up and doesn't just make us observers. The museum was hard for me, so much so that we analyze the new forms of slavery in the world and whether or not we are in agreement with them... won't fast fashion and capitalism be the new Colonial Lords??

Today I walked at a place where human trade took place in the past. Now travellers in yachts enjoy the Carribbean. It is easy and convenient to forget. But if people forget history, they will not be able to understand and interpret the present. The Memorial Acte museum contributes to that direction, it connects the past to the present and features the culture of Guadeloupe.
