I studied abroad in Starnberg, Germany on the beautiful Starnberger See. It was spart of my languages degree at Glasgow but i was largely motivated to improve my language skills. It was while ago now, but I can still remember the amazing cycles round the lake, beer gardens in Munich, and trying to acclimatise and learn the language. It was as challenging as it was enjoyable and taught me so much resilience and cultural understanding.

I studied abroad in Rome, Italy for a semester my first year of University in the US before I came to the University of Glasgow. I went abroad because I was part of a programme where you went on exchange the first semester of University and while it was very intimidating to start uni in a new country, culture, and with a different language, I loved my time abroad. I felt challenged and gained confidence.

I studied abroad in Barcelona for my 3rd year. I fell in love with the city and cannot wait to go back and visit. I enjoyed improving my Spanish and attempting to learn some Catalan. However, my favourite thing was immersing myself in Spanish culture - during my time in Barcelona I witnessed several Spanish festivals which were always interesting and a great party!

I studied abroad in the cultural capital of Estonia, Tartu for the autumn semester of my third year. I had always wanted to go abroad, having stayed home in Glasgow for university, and I knew the push and challenge of Study Abroad would be great for me- I also looked forward to all the memories I hoped to make. I loved my time abroad, I'm still in regular contact with my friends from there and am in the process of planning my 3rd holiday with them! I'll always appreciate the challenge of Study Abroad and the confidence and lasting memories it gave me.

Hi, my name is Pia! I had the pleasure of spending a wonderful winter semester in Glasgow in 2025. I love the landscape, the weather (yes!), the humor, the accent, ... What's not to love about Scotland? The health system perhaps, I would say, after waiting 4h for an ambulance. But that's not important now. I have wanted to study abroad because I am interested in different ways of life, culture, and new acquaintances and experiences. At home I am in the Master's of Rhetoric. At Glasgow it was not very easy to place me, and I ended up taking courses on poetry, name studies, and censorship. I learned a lot about these topics and I learned a lot about myself, gaining confidence in solo traveling and in being out of my routines and comfort zones. I would always love to go back to the beautiful stone buildings, Kelvin river, lively city centre, and the fresh air.

I arrived in Glasgow, Scotland, in September 2025 to begin my Master’s journey in Human Rights and International Politics. From the very first moment, I felt a unique warmth in this city. Despite its unpredictable weather, sometimes a little challenging, there is an undeniable sense of comfort and kindness here.

The people are incredibly welcoming, making it easy to feel at home, even from afar. While understanding the Glaswegian accent has been a challenge at times, I am improving every day and even enjoying the process.

I’ve fallen in love with the nature here. On sunny days, Glasgow reveals its true beauty, and so do the surrounding places, from the charm of Edinburgh to the breathtaking landscapes of the Highlands.

This experience has been truly transformative. I am learning something new every day, not only academically but also personally. Coming here was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I leave each day feeling richer, in knowledge, in experience, and in who I am becoming.
