         <description><![CDATA[<div>Let’s focus on Index 4 Post-secondary Readiness.&nbsp; HMS scored at 22 while this unnamed school scored at 65.&nbsp; That, my friends, is a huge difference, yet our students will have to compete for college admission and other career opportunities with other students that perform like those at the unnamed campus.&nbsp; As I said, we’ve met the state standards at HMS and we are to be commended for our hard work.&nbsp; However, when we revisit our district’s mission statement, it’s arguable that we lag so far behind that HMS students aren’t even in the foot race to live up to the vision our district imagines for all of our students. Let’s begin to use our library and teacher librarian as a resource to close this achievement gap!&nbsp;</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Unfortunately, at the conclusion of the last Texas Library Impact Study, one in four schools in Texas did not have certified teacher librarians. Colorado and the state of Washington completed library impact studies in 2012 and 2015 and the results confirmed their library programs have a significant and measurable impact on student success, defined as performing better on standardized tests and actually graduating.&nbsp; The Washington study found that even poorer students and students with IEPs do better in the presence of strong school library programs. Washington state libraries are given LQS (Library Quality Service) scores that ranges from 0-35.&nbsp; Libraries with an LQS of 26 or higher tend to have student populations with higher achievement levels on state and national exams. Positive factors in libraries with high LQS scores include extended library hours, the number of group/class visits to the library, inventory of books and informational databases, and computer accessibility for direct instruction and use of library programs. In addition, Colorado confirmed the school librarians providing professional development for teachers is impactful to student scores. The data is clear. Let’s work to aggressively use our school library space and teacher librarian to accomplish our district’s vision for our students.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>
