Blind obedience is important because in The Giver, the community does things that shouldn't be done like releasing one of the twin baby's. Also, they only follow the rules only the elders put out and if anything out of ordinary happens, they are all freaked out. But Jonas realizes what release is, and when he does, he watches his dad "kill" the twin baby. After watching it, he thinks it's weird and not fight but everybody in the community doesn't question it and goes with it. In the text, when Jonas says "He killed it! My father killed it! Jonas said to himself" he doesn't trust and is scared of the community now after watching his father kill someone. The only person Jonas trusts is The Giver because he has never lied to Jonas and Jonas thinks he did not do anything wrong. There are also a lot of other things that proves that blind obedience is the most important theme in The Giver because it's in the future and the community has become more and more different and odd.
