Suggestion 1 : Buying nuclear power from the Mainland is better

Reason 1:
~The nuclear power is much more effective and less harmful for the environment. As reflected on Source C, the wind farm only produces a small amount of clean and renewable energy but will have a terrible drawback on the environment of Hong Kong. It is a more of a symbolic gesture of globalisation as all other countries are alternating to nuclear energy but not aiming to tackle the problem of greenhouse gas issue.

Reason 2
~Buying nuclear power from China is better as it is more cost-effective. Despite Hong Kong spending almost $7 billion on developing offshore wind farms, it only produces about 1% of the city’s electricity. In this case, the cost of generating electricity is very high. Moreover, the capacity of wind offshore is relatively low

Suggestion 1/STANCE: Buying nuclear power from the Mainland is a better choice for Hong Kong compared to building an offshore wind farm, referring to one of the two suggestions by the concern group in Source C.

Reason 1: Firstly, it is more cost-effective than building an offshore wind farm. According to Source C, the offshore wind farm requires an investment of around HK$5 to 7 billion. On the other hand, buying nuclear power from China is cheaper. Therefore, simply purchasing nuclear power from the Mainland is more cost-effective and requires less financial investment.

Reason 2: Secondly, it is also a more reliable and efficient energy source than a offshore wind farm. According to Source B, the energy capacity of wind power is only 20-40%. Moreover, wind power supply is halted by environmental factors such as heavy rain or typhoons. On the other hand, nuclear power’s energy capacity is very high and also clean like wind power. Therefore, buying nuclear power is more efficient and reliable than an offshore wind farm.
