(Julian V.) Intuition is the "ability to understand or know something immediately based on your feelings rather than facts." I believe intuition is important in math because manipulating and solving complex problems usually demands varying approaches. If you're experienced enough at solving equations, you would likely gain a certain degree of intuition that would notify you if you're pursuing the correct approach.

Source:
Intuition (2021, September 15) Retrieved on 9/21/21, from https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/intuition

‌

According to Merriam-Webster, intuition is "the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference". I believe that intuition is used in math when being faced with any given problem. In class, we are taught the skills that we need in order to solve mathematical equations and expressions. When we go out and practice solving problems or do so in exams, intuition is what leads us to be able to solve these problems. By just looking at the equation/expression presented to us, we are able to determine what skills we need to use to solve these problems. Without much thinking, intuition is what leads us to realize what skills to use at first glance.

Source:
Intuition. (September 21, 2021). Merriam-Webster.

Intuition is "the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference". It's developed through practice. When we look at a problem, it allows us to give an initial impression on what skills and what steps we have to take in order to solve it. Our intuition is able to cover the bases and allows us to direct our focus towards less basic applications towards the problem. Intuition is especially important in harder problems, where the majority of our focus requires us to look outside the box. Having the skill to not think too hard and waste time on the basics help.

Bibliography:
Intuition. (September 21, 2021). Merriam-Webster.

I think the use of intuition in math is to allow us to figure problems out without really knowing the exact process initially. It comes from applying our deep understanding of math topics and how the "numbers work" to come up with a process we haven't learned yet or wouldn't have known without intuition. Like Carl Fredrich Gauss, he used his understanding of numbers to realize a creative process to pair up numbers on opposite ends.

The use of intuition in math is for us to be able to apply the topics/methods we have learned to other similar math problems immediately. This can be further developed by practicing on different equations with different difficulty levels. As well as a good understanding of the topic. Its important for students to have intuition as this will allow us to solve different problems that require different formulas and different processes efficiently and effectively.

Intuition is the ability to understand something, without the need for conscious reasoning and is based usually on one’s own knowledge feeling of a situation. In math, we often use our intuition in problem solving and analysis so that we are able to solve problems without much instruction. It also helps us analyse unfamiliar problems and concepts so that we can grasp how to solve them to the best of our ability.

Intuition. “The ability to understand something immediately without conscious reasoning.” as defined by Oxford Dictionary. This can be applied to mathematics as well. Sometimes, one could get the answer without needing to dive deep into the problems. They can get this by either observing patterns, remembering what they’ve seen before, and looking at a topic from a different angle. It is useful, and can help save time for certain problems. If one is in a rush and cannot spend a lot of time on one problem, they can identify patterns in their workings and their previous work, and use that as a reference instead.
