Os Arrais is the name given by brothers Tiago and André Arrais to their musical work. In addition to the connection between the band's name and their surname, Os Arrais believe that there is a more significant connotation to the name that their musical work carries. Arrais in the Portuguese dictionary means “drivers of small boats.” And in fact, this is the connotation that best fits the work and vision of the brothers.

Os Arrais do not live only from music. Both have responsibilities that go beyond music itself, and for this reason, they understand that the music they write co-appears with their existence, in the struggles, joys, and challenges of everyday life. Like all other human beings on the sea of life, Os Arrais are just two more drivers, taking the boats of their existence towards the other side of the sea. This harmony between reflections existing in a theological context made the songs spread throughout Brazil, taking their release entitled “Mais” to the first place in sales on iTunes and, currently, they have almost 45 million views on YouTube.

Tiago Arrais is currently completing his PhD in Old Testament and Christian Philosophy at Andrews University in the state of Michigan.

André Arrais also lives in the US, more specifically in the mountainous desert of New Mexico. With a degree in Law and a Master's in Theology, he is currently a pastor of two Seventh-day Adventist churches in the Albuquerque region of New Mexico.

According to an article in Billboard Brasil published on January 5, 2024, the duo broke up in 2022 and is no longer active, although nothing official has been said by either brother to date.

Luan Santana was born on March 13, 1991 (something interesting is that most people don't really know his name, or they think Luan Santana is his name, but his name is actually Luan Rafael Domingos Santana).

With that, he is undoubtedly one of my favorite artists and I've been a fan of his since I was little. He started his career in 2007 (one year after I was born). He did his first show in Bela Vista, Mato Grosso do Sul. However, the year he really took off was 2009, a meteoric period when he was and still is very successful. It's incredible to think that he started so young because everyone already saw his talent. It was even his father who gave him his first guitar. His family has always supported him, as have his friends. He's already been in the business for 17 years.

He's a talented, charismatic singer with a huge heart. His simplicity, romanticism and dedication, and his songs will always make you think a little, and the lyrics always have a lot of love in the middle, his songs are incredible. He recently released the album Luan City and the most recent is the album Lua which was released on October 10, 2024, behind a “simple” album Luan shows that each song was named in reference to a lunar phase, reflecting the idea of transformation and renewal. One that is trending is “Se repentesse matasse” (very good by the way) addresses universal themes of love and regret, providing an emotional connection with the listeners, one thing that I think many people do not know is that one of his biggest dreams is to record a song with Roberto Carlos, his idol and he is also a fan of Elvis Presley and Beetle. Luan rekindled his relationship with Jade, their love has been going on since 2009 when he met her, they were together for 12 years and in 2019 they got engaged but then announced their separation and after years they got back together and are expecting a child.

At the time, they liked to mix rock, pop and the most diverse popular Brazilian genres, such as country music and forró, for example. The last performance took place directly at Estádio Mané Garrincha, in Brasília, in front of 4,500 people and marked the end of the tour for the band's first album. From there, they would return to São Paulo and then leave for Portugal, starting the international stage.

The flight, however, did not complete the journey and the private jet they were on collided in Serra da Cantareira, in the north of the capital, abruptly claiming the lives of all crew members.

Raul Santos Seixas (Father of Brazilian rock)

Raul Santos Seixas was a Brazilian singer, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, often considered one of the pioneers of Brazilian rock. He was also a music producer for CBS, during his stay in the city of Rio de Janeiro and is sometimes called the Father of Brazilian Rock and Maluco Beleza. His musical work consists of seventeen albums released over a 26-year career. His musical style is traditionally classified as rock and baião, and in fact he managed to unite both genres in songs like Let me Sing, Let me Sing. His debut album, Raulzito e os Panteras (1968) was produced when he was part of the group Raulzito e os Panteras, but only gained critical and public notoriety with songs such as Ouro de Tolo, Mosca na Sopa and Metamorfose Ambulante, from the album Krig-ha , Bandolo!, from 1973. Raul Seixas had a musical style that was called "contestant and mystical". This is due to the ideals he defended, such as the Alternative Society presented in the album Gita, released in 1974, influenced by figures such as the British occultist Aleister Crowley.

Skeptical and agnostic, Raul was interested in philosophy (mainly metaphysics and ontology), psychology, history, literature and Latin. Some ideas from these currents were widely used in his work, which received good reception or curiosity because of this. He was one of the most applauded artists in the decade of his emergence. In the 1980s, it declined but continued producing albums that sold well, such as Raul Seixas (1983), Uah-Bap-Lu-Bap-Lah-Béin-Bum! (1987) and A Panela do Diabo (1989), the latter in partnership with fellow Bahian and friend Marcelo Nova. His musical work has continually increased in size, as his records (mainly posthumous albums) continue to be sold, making him a symbol of rock in the country and one of the most revered and beloved artists among fans in recent years. In October 2008, Rolling Stone magazine promoted the List of the One Hundred Greatest Artists of Brazilian Music, the result of which placed Raul Seixas in 19th position, surpassing names such as Milton Nascimento, Maria Bethânia, Heitor Villa-Lobos and others. The previous year, the same magazine promoted the List of the One Hundred Greatest Albums in Brazilian Music, where two of his albums appeared: Krig-ha, Bandolo!, in 12th position and Novo Aeon, in 53rd position.

Skank was a Brazilian pop rock band formed in 1991 in the city of Belo Horizonte. Throughout its history, its lineup consisted of Samuel Rosa (vocals, guitar and acoustic guitar), Henrique Portugal (keyboards, acoustic guitar and backing vocals), Lelo Zaneti (bass and backing vocals) and Haroldo Ferretti (drums). The band has sold around 6.6 million recordings, making them one of the best-selling music artists in Brazil.[1] In 2019, after 28 years of career, Skank announced its end, with a farewell tour held between 2022 and 2023.

Centered on the harmony of one and the energy of the other, the group began driven by the interest in transporting the atmosphere of Jamaican dancehall to the Brazilian pop tradition. It released its first album independently - but the underground success aroused the interest of the powerful Sony Music, which, with the band, inaugurated the Chaos label in Brazil. Their second album, released in 1994, was the springboard to stardom: over 1 million copies of “Calango” and top hits such as “Jackie Tequila” and “Te Ver” were sold. The album opened the doors to a new generation of Brazilian bands who were aware of the latest trends in world rock and, at the same time, curious about the roots of local tradition.

Their success did not diminish: more radio hits followed, such as “Resposta”, “Saideira” and “Balada do Amor Inabalável” – the latter with echoes of Sergio Mendes in a cyberpunk atmosphere. It is the same versatility that allows the group to record alongside Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), Manu Chao, Uakti and Jorge Ben Jor and to draw praise from Stewart Copeland for their version of “Wrapped Around Your Finger”, included in the Latin tribute to the Police, “Outlandos D'America”. A versatile band that shows no restraint other than perfect pop and the energy to get the crowd going – as was recorded on the CD and DVD “Ao Vivo Ouro Preto”, which produced another top-one hit, “Acima do Sol”, and sold over half a million copies.

After more than 30 years of career, Skank announced in 2020 its decision to end its activities. The news saddened fans, but the band left an important legacy for Brazilian music.

Skank was much more than a rock band. It was a musical movement that helped popularize reggae in Brazil and influenced several generations of musicians.

Cidade Negra was a Brazilian reggae band formed in 1986 in the city of Belford Roxo, Rio de Janeiro, and whose last line-up included Bino Farias (bass) and Toni Garrido (vocals). Their lyrics speak of love and sociocultural and philosophical issues.

Somehow, the Baixada Fluminense region was a place as active and tense as the famous slums of Kingston, the capital of Jamaica.

With the connection established, Cidade Negra awaited its place in the sun while watching reggae become a mass phenomenon in distant states such as Maranhão, Piauí and Bahia. It was time for Rio. In 1990, Sony Music, still CBS, decided to take a chance on this group that already had a good track record of shows, including tours to Salvador and São Paulo and even participation in a BBC London documentary about Rio. The album Lute para Viver showed that the guys from Cidade Negra were there for whatever came their way, telling the truth about the real culture of Rio. With careful production by Nelson Meirelles, they were able to show the full power of their sound and immediately scored a hit that is still requested at their shows: “Falar a Verdade.” In 1994, the group underwent a restructuring that would put the group into a new phase. Toni Garrido, former lead singer of the band Bel, replaced Ras Bernardo and immediately added his touch to the new compositions. In 2006, celebrating twenty years of their career, the group from Rio released the duo CD and DVD Direto - Ao Vivo. Recorded at Fundição Progresso, in Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, the CD features eighteen tracks, including the greatest hits and seven new songs, three of which were recorded in the studio. Among the new songs, we can highlight "Bamba" (live) and "O Paraíso tem um Tempo Bom" (studio). There was no shortage of special guests, Lulu Santos and Os Paralamas do Sucesso were present, making the event even greater.

In April 2008, Toni Garrido announced his departure from Cidade Negra, after fourteen years on the road, to pursue a career with the band Flecha Black and to work solo. Toni fulfilled what was already scheduled on the band's agenda and performed his last concert at the Festa Estadual do Leite Presidente Getúlio, Santa Catarina, on May 31, 2008. On June 13, Cidade Negra announced the new vocalist.

Toni's place was taken by the band's singer Alexandre Massau, former lead singer of the bands Berimbrown and Preto Massa from Minas Gerais. Alexandre moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he took his career to the next level by becoming the most sought-after replacement for Toni Garrido. Soon after, he made his debut with the group at the Winter Festival in the city of Santos Dumont, Minas Gerais, on July 29 of the same year, to a warm reception from the public. Five months after Toni Garrido left, guitarist Da Gama announced on his website that he was leaving the group to pursue a solo career, a career he had been working on since the middle of the year, working on the production of his first solo album Violas e Canções. Cidade Negra is now a trio with Alexandre, Lazão and Bino. With the departure of contracted guitarist Sérgio Yazbeck, guitarists Alexandre Prol and Egler Bruno joined, both experienced musicians with experience in various styles, who gave the sound a new dimension. Completing the line-up is keyboardist Alex Meirelles, who has been with Cidade Negra for years.

Djavan Caetano Viana was born on January 27, 1949, in Maceió, Alagoas. He was influenced by music from an early age, especially by his mother, Virginia, who sang and taught him songs by Orlando Silva, Ângela Maria and Dalva de Oliveira2. Djavan started playing the guitar at 16 and, at 18, formed the vocal group Luz, Som, Dimensão, where he played Beatles songs.

In 1973, he moved to Rio de Janeiro to try his luck in the music industry. He worked as a crooner in famous nightclubs and eventually began composing his own songs1. His songs, such as “Sina”, “Oceano”, “Samurai” and “Pétala”, are known for their creativity and fusion of styles such as jazz, samba and bossa nova.

Djavan is so special to me because of his beautiful and harmonious lyrics; it's about the emotional depth and musical sophistication he brings to each composition. His songs are like poetry that touch the heart, and his ability to blend different genres creates a unique and captivating listening experience.
