Begrepet humanisme kommer fra det latinske ordet humanus og det betyr "menneskelig"

I hele sitt liv arbeidet han iherdig for det humanistiske livssynet, blant annent gjennom foredrag og artikler. Han var en drivkraft for humanistisk konfirmasjon (borgerlig) og det human-etiske forbundet.

Kristian Horn var den som hadde arbeidet mest for å få dannet denne organisasjonen. Han var også leder for denne organisasjonen de første 20 årene , og han startet først men noen 100 medlemmer, 1970 var han oppi 1000 medlemmer.

Idag har human-etisk forbund omkring 70 000 medlemmer (2006) og i hele landet er det nærmere 150 lokallag.

Sang og musikk er trolig den aller eldste kunstneriske utformen mennesker har brukt for å dele følelser for sorg, kjærlighet, lengsel og følelser av glede. Det er veldig stor forskjell i klang, rytme og instrumenter gjennom historien og mellom folkegruppene.
