A ted talk - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiGLU6_GD88

I watched a Ted talk, by Matthew Kenny, talking about what it means to be a team player. The reason why I chose to listen to this ted talk is because I wanted to improve on my teamwork skills and how to be a good team player, I will also be writing a summary on this topic which will allow me to improve on my written communicate skills as well.
I have always understood and recognised the importance of work team however it is not always applicable or relevant in my life as I tend to prefer working alone as compared to working in a team. However I wanted to challenge myself and integrate traits of being a good team player into my life. Thus I wanted to listen to this ted talk talking about what it means to be a team player.
This ted talk discussed about the relevance of working as a team. The speaker shared 3 main points that I felt was extremely helpful to me and which I could use in future team work assignments. The 3 main points he shared were: Adapt, shift and delegate.
He mentioned that it is important to adapt to team members such as their styles and the way that they learn, this way it allows integration to happen and effective learning and discussions will be produced
For shift, I have to abandon the idea of if I want something done right I have to do it myself. It is important to shift my goal and understand each group that I work with is different, dynamic and unique
For delegate, I have to recognise that I can lean on my team members and seek help from them.
In conclusion I think being a good team player is very important as in any point of out life whether if it's in school or work, there will always come a point where I will have to work in teams, and it is important for me to start now and take note of working well in teams and ensuring that I take into practice of being a good team player that can work well with others.

Reflection
How I felt?: this ted talk reminded me the importance of team work and being a good team player, I think the most important point that stood out the most was adapt, I think people find it difficult to adapt especially in situations, such as being placed in a group where you're uncomfortable or unfamiliar with or not agreeing with other team mates working styles, when placed in these situations it is always important to remind ourselves that we have to make adjustments to how the team works , this way it will help to improve the team's dynamic and effective discussions and planning will be produced.
Reflection: After listening to the ted talk, I noted down the important points and structured how i wanted to write down the summary, by taking my time to structure my notes and thoughts down onto a piece of paper allowed me to improve my written communication skills. It also allowed me to push myself to write more and be more creative with how I write, in terms of being descriptive and phrasing sentence. Overall I find writing summaries helpful for my written communication skills as it can be a practice for me.

I watched a Youtube video on how to make a website, i found the video extremely help and insightful as the speaker went through many important points.
The first thing the speaker mentioned was what is the purpose:
1. What is the hook
2. What is the call to action
What the is the hook refers to what entices or attracts the readers. What call to action refers to is the commanding aspects which is the first thing readers see when visiting the website.
The second point the speaker mentioned was clarity, it is important for information to be found easily and the website should be simple and straight forward, and avoid it being complicated and difficult to navigate
The third point to note is the reading rules: information/texts/pictures should be places from left to right or top to bottom, this format is important as the reader's eyes naturally scans over a page, rather than reading meticulously.

Reflection:
How I felt?: I felt that the video allowed me to improve my IT skills as it provided a various of insightful information and points to take note when creating a website
What will I do next?: I will take note of these important points, and share them with my teammates and ensure that we will use them when creating a website for my group project.

Currently we are still choosing between two websites to use to create our website

We each gave our input and opinions, and narrowed down to a few applications to use to create the website. We ensured that we respected and listened to each member's input, thus producing a rather peaceful and agreeable outcome.
We have delegated different topics to research on to each team member, and are still currently researching on interesting topics to put into the website.

AES poster

I created a poster for my AES module, and the topic was on the causes and effects of poor work life balance, and are the employers primarily responsible for the employees work life balance.
Through this poster assignment it allowed me to research a lot on this topic of work life balance.
Firstly, what I researched and came across were the many causes that caused poor work life balance, such as long working hours, the workload, pressure from their supervisors and many more. These causes of poor work life balance could lead to effects such as depression, anxiety, lack of sleep, poor performance at work and many more. These effects of poor work life balance does not only affect the employee themselves but the employer as well, If employees sleep schedule is affected due to the amount of work load given to them, it might affect their productivity and efficiency at work causing them to produce not their best effort at work, which might also affect the company's business.
Through the research and poster making, it allowed me to be more aware of the importance of a healthy work life balance and how employers should implement policies or practices for their employees to practice healthy work life balance.

reflection: Writing down what i have learnt from my poster making has allowed me to improve and challenge myself for my written communication skills as this is a practice for me to write the summary of what is being taught and what i have learnt through out my poster assignment. I feel that i have improved in my written communication skills as this is my second time writing a summary of what I have learnt. I also made sure to avoid making any mistakes such as grammar or spelling errors and tried reading out loud my summary to ensure that the flow of my writing sounded smooth and that readers could understand what I was writing.
Writing of summaries definitely helped my written communication skills to improve. and it also made me enjoy writing more.

I watched a ted talk on positivity - the power of choice, by Samantha Rea.
She talked about the importance of a positive attitude can be an essential stepping stone into developing the ambition needed to tackle something that you feel is an impossible issue, a positive attitude can also be a driving force for change when the situation seems so hopeless and when everyone around you is giving up.
She also mentioned that having a positive mindset is a choice where we all have the ability to feel positive and happy about ourselves and we can focus on the good things instead of the bad things. I think this is an important point that i can learn from as when faced with a difficult situation, I tend to immerse myself into the negatives, however in whatever situation i am placed in, there will always be positive aspects to it, but because of the negativity clouded in our minds, we cannot see the positive side to things. This change a lot of things, and it is a reminder to myself that positivity is a choice. So this week I challenged myself to keep a gratitude journal of what went well everyday and what I am thankful for.

Reflection: similar to the previous two written summaries I did, I noted down the important points of this ted talk, such as we have the ability to choose how we feel everyday, and positive psychological interventions such as mindfulness, act of kindness, gratitude journals and what went well all helps with having a positive mindset. With noting down the important key points I wanted to write for my summary it made it a lot easier to plan and write it down.
The challenge I gave myself to keep a gratitude journal also allowed me to practice on my written communication, which makes me enjoy writing even more.

Due to the time difference, it was very difficult to schedule a time that everyone in the team could work with, thus we have decided to do our own individual project work instead, this reminds me of how important and difficult creating good team work is. Through this time of trying to make our group project work, I realised the importance of good team work is meeting each other on the same level, such as the direction we are heading towards, and this is where communication comes in. Communicating is very essential as it involves us constantly updating each other and ensuring that we are both receiving similar information and are on the same page. Thankful during this short term project we were both able to have communication with each other, however due to certain circumstances we have decided to each do our own individual project of website making.

This week I read a book based on the Japanese secret to a long and happy life. The book is titled Ikigai, where the people in Japan believe that everyone has an Ikigai - which means a reason to jump out of bed each morning. This book touches on many topics such as the art of staying young while growing old, the little things that add up to a long and happy life, how to live longer and better by finding your purpose, how to find the flow in everything you do and the master of longevity. These were really helpful and detailed topics written in the book but what stood out and intrigued me the most was when they interviewed a total of 100 elderly members of the community about their life philosophy, their "Ikigai" and their secret to longevity. A few statements that they put together were:
1. Don't worry - " the secret to a long life is not to worry, keep your heart young, open your heart to people and act with kindness"
2. Cultivate good habit - do something that you enjoy and feel at ease, and make that your Ikigai.
3. Nurture your friendships every day. - create a community that you feel comfortable with and ensure that this community of yours keep you accountable and encourages you.
Overall this was very encouraging and mind opening book, where I learnt a lot. It also taught me to ask myself what my 'Ikigai' is and find my purpose, how to nurture and grow my friendships and seek for what I am passionate about.

I watched a ted talk talking about the importance of Grit, which is characteristic that emerge as a significant predictor of success. She explained that grit is passion and perseverance for very long term goals, it is having the stamina to stick with your future, and working very hard to make that future a reality. A growth mind set is an idea of the belief that the ability to learn is not fixed, and it can change through hard work and effort. It is important to take your best ideas or things that you are passionate about and test them to ensure whether it is successful or not and to be willing to fail and start over again to have lesson learnt and to improve on them.

Reflection: Through This ted talk it made me realise the importance of grit, and how grit is a key to success, where I have to follow through with what I want to do and what I am passionate about. It also open my eyes to see that failure is an option and through failure and struggles, lessons will be learnt and from there improvement can be made.

Based on my work this semester, in terms of strengths I learnt that I am someone who works well with others, and I am not afraid to ask or speak up about something that I am unsure of. Because of the assurance and guidance from my teachers, I am able to come out omy quite shell and am able to be confident in myself when speaking up. This allowed me to enjoy classes even more, as I had the chance to engage and participate in class with my peers

Think about the activities you have carried out: How have they helped you with your studies? How might they help you in the world of work? (200-250 words)

These activities that I have been carrying out for the past few weeks has allowed me to grow and learn a lot. What helped me in my studies was it allowed me to further develop new skills that I could use in the future. One skill that allowed me to further push myself was written communication skills. After listening to a ted talk that suggested practicing gratitude journal, I decided to push myself and made myself write a gratitude journal almost every day, with the practice of writing almost every day, it helped me to improve my writing skills, grammar, punctuation marks, my comprehension skills and many more. Written communication skills also allowed to excel in my studies, in terms of our essay and poster assignments. Through the skills that I have picked up, I also learnt how to be specific when writing an essay, choosing simpler words and avoid using fluff words, to allow my essay or assignment to look clean and neat. The activity of making of a website also allowed to understand and learn how to make a website, which I think can be very useful in the world of work, where in the future, at my work, I might be needed to make a website and because of the skills that I have picked up, the journey of making a website will be very easy and manageable for me as I had experience and knowledge of making a website

What skills do you need to develop further? Why? What might you do in the future to work on these? (150-200 words)

Another skill that I think I need to develop further is cultivating good time management skills. the reason why I feel I have to further develop this skill is because, time management is important and needed in our daily lives. With better time management skills, it will allow me to be better at decision making, multitasking, prioritising and goal setting. This way more goals and tasks will be achieved, and it will allow me to be motivated and push my self to achieve things that I thought are not achievable. Another thing I will do in the future to improve my time management skill is that I will make a list of my goals that I want to achieve, with my goals listed and written down, I can visually see it and it will affect my behaviours and how I act which can motivate me to attain my goals.
