Lights are measured in watts (symbol W) and volts (symbol V). The dictionary meaning of ‘watts’ is: “the SI unit of power, equivalent to one joule per second, corresponding to the rate of consumption of energy in an electric circuit where the potential difference is one volt and the current one ampere.” Watts were invented and named after James Watt, in the late 1800s.

To get the amount of Watts used, one would multiply the volt times amperage in the circuit. For example a circuit with a 24 volt circuit with 4 amperage would consume 96 Watts.

USE:
You need to think about how the light will be powered eg. via a solar panel, wall socket, or will it be powered through wiring that goes in the roof. What best suits your light and its design?
