The first photo is from my grandmother's assisted living facility. The line spacing is all over the place not to mention the random capital y in the first line. The second photo is a Radiohead poster. The letter spacing is tighter in some areas than others. The last photo is a Vision Video poster. The letter spacing on this one is barely legible.

Nostalgic/historical

These three photos are from the special collections library. The first depicts a poster for a musical from the 1950s. The second is also a public announcement about a theatre performance in Italy, dating back to 1834. The last photo is also promoting a play from 1974.

The first photo was taken at a thrift store. The second was a bathroom sign in the Dodd. And the third was a drink menu at Walker's downtown.

This was a tricky category. I tried to find type that did not use the same exact form for the same letters. For example, the letter e in the cafe racer type face.

Type in the built environment

These three types were found in the art library. All three have some element of 3D like a shadow or inclusion of negative space.

Successful typeface pairings (or poor pairings—explain why)

These three photos use multiple typefaces. I think the pairing in the first photo works because of the contrast. The script type is balanced with the bolder type. I also think the second photo's type pairings work (specifically "underdressed at the symphony"); however, there are a lot of typefaces being used. I think the last poster is a poor pairing because it is not legible.

In the first photo, there is a fun special character on the left. In the second photo, the designer used an ampersand. And in the third photo, there is an asterisk.
