One aspect of the WL vision that will push curriculum and practice is the use of the term/concept of "language acquisition". Conceptually, this is an absolute shift from language learning, or learning about language, and suggests that this team is interested in collaboratively developing the resources and practices that lead to L2 acquisition with an emphasis on authentic experiences, applied language and real world use. It seems to me that with the influx of authentic users of the language in Spanish levels 3-5, the opportunity to refine practices that leverage the different pragmatic language skills of the student group will support achievement of acquisition. I think the vision is exemplary of the movement in language learning within SDW but also across the discipline. This is an exciting time for this team-there seems to be real opportunity to engage students in what we hope will be a lifelong skill they apply throughout their lives and across many experiences.

The WL vision is to foster growth in language learning by creating a collaborative experience that provides opportunities to strengthen communication and empower students, teachers and the community.

The WL vision means we will work to incorporate authentic experiences into our daily instruction. We will work as a team to use assessments (IPAs) that apply the language use instead of just language basic language knowledge. We will need time to do this WELL.
