These people give up looking for a job and are not counted in the unemployment rate even though they are unemployed. 

An example of this is when cool Mr. Easton finished law school, but no one would hire him. This went on for months to the point he almost decided to give up in his search. If he had, he would have become a "discouraged worker" and no longer included in the unemployment rate, despite being jobless.

Workers who experience this form of unemployment are qualified and have transferable skills. This may result from worker's choice who plan to seek better positions and may result in businesses having a greater selection of highly qualified candidates. For example, a person who works at 7/11, but has an MBA would look for another job that better suits their qualifications. The period of time between these jobs is frictional unemployment.

There is only the unavoidable types of unemployment, structural and frictional. It is considered the desired rate of unemployment, usually in the range of 4-6% for the United States. The current natural unemployment rate in the US is 4.6%.

It does not count race and age inequalities, discouraged job seekers, and the underemployed. For example, Sarah works at Cinnabon, who only allows her to work 10 hours a week, but in reality she can and is able to work 20 hours, this demonstrates she is underemployed. Like Sara , many others are not included in the GDP even though they are working.

A type of structural unemployment is technological unemployment, where automation and machinery replace workers, causing unemployment. For example, technological advances have caused structural unemployment in the newspaper industry. Advertising through the Internet has become the primary source of spreading news, which means that employees, such as journalists, printers, and newspaper delivery boys, lost their jobs.
