Teen Panel - Digital Life

Our school copied Common Sense's (formally) annual Teen Panel event. We asked 8 - 10 8th graders (our oldest kids) to sit on a panel for an audience of parents, teachers, and younger kids. They were asked questions about their digital life, and were really honest! After that, people were more aware than ever about what was really going on online.

Teaching our first graders to cite their sources in a modified format (we use NAP - Name, Author, Publisher), makes it so much easier to set the expectation later, and provides a great discussion for respect of other's work!

We use case studies to analyze the right behavior when it comes to digital citizenship. The engagement is high during these lessons, especially when the case studies are about former students (names and identities changed of course).
