These plants make up the bulk of the Texas Costal Plains and are made up of small root plants due to the ~56in of rain per year preventing the clay soil from supporting large root plants. Tall grasses like: blue stem, bulrush, eastern gamagrass, switchgrass and yellow indiangrass populate much of the area; along with flowers such as the texas coneflower, swamp sunflower, indian blanket, mexican hat, goldenrod, black-eyed susan and blazing star.

Most of the area is characterized by lots of standing, brachish water and salt-water plants like shoalgrass, turtlegrass, sedge, rush, cattail, mangrove, pickerelweed and common reeds. Furthermore, common flowers found in this area are the water hyacinth, beach morning glory, white waterlily and rose mallow.
