         <description><![CDATA[<div>Saskia went in to observe a Year 9 Socials lesson with Mel. The students were working on an assessment for 'Cultural Adventures'. The task was based on the idea that Tamaki Makaurau is a 'fruit salad' of cultures. The unit of work includes aspects of law around immigration which ties in well with the Year 8 current unit of work on 'Law and Order'<br>Different assessment tasks/options were evident on Mel's classroom wall and her students could clearly explain the purpose behind the set task and seemed motivated by the topic. Many had personal by-in.<br>The task gave the students autonomy in which culture they chose to focus on and how they presented their learning.&nbsp;<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Term three allowed me to meet up with Sam and work on the precise nature of the requirements in our curriculum to rubric level achievements. For example  P.E. for the 5km run we would normally just give their run time a mark, but breaking down our rubric requirements this last term with Sam allowed a thorough dive into explaining the fitness behind the run and the lead up fitness to the run which students need to add to their assessment in a paragraph and as a graph with results. This holistic teaching of the fitness aspect has really improved the understanding of the teaching across the levels 3-6 in the curriculum and how each aspect in a level must be ticked off before a student can move up so that the foundations are understood for each student. </div>]]></description>

I do not teach one stage at a time. I consider what I am teaching - eg report writing - and then I choose appropriate concepts to go over according to the written genre we are exploring. This makes it much easier to see at a glance where to find the appropriate learning tasks. Will save the folder on drive in middle school. </p>]]></description>

I know other Year 7 classes have done similar. </p><p>Good for students to speak to about their progress and next steps. Evidence-based. </p><p>Would like to see Writers Toolbox actually have a function in place to compile this for students and teachers. </p><p>Would then look at mid year compilation and an end of year compilation to track progress. Example attached. </p><p>If it works well would be good to see it become a part of Middle School evidence-gathering and Academic Conference discussion. Looked at inclusion of Literacy and numeracy in planning. Took a walk around the P.E. department. Noted that both senior and middle school are short of space now and smart spatial planning is needed. Spoke to Anton and will look at adding some pickleball lines and touch zone lines to courts for more options. Sam has great resources to share with teachers unsure of skills teaching for new and old games and is happy to share. </p>]]></description>
