Week 1: First Meeting of Pre-Production (26/02/2024)

For the first meeting we read over the script. I took notes of different makeup looks for the characters and brainstormed the budget (i.e. where to source the Elvis wig and how to style the Agents).

Week 2: Hair/Makeup Breakdown for Grace (04/03/2024)

In week 3 we decided to write a rough breakdown of each characters' hair and makeup. We started with both of Grace's looks and decided on natural makeup generally, with a grunge, 90's style eye look to match the time frame.

I specifically took inspiration from Sarah Michelle Gellar's (Right) eye look as Kathryn in Cruel Intentions (Kumble, 1999). The eyeliner is subtle, yet it gives her an edgy look which is what I wanted to achieve with Grace's look.

Now for hair, we decided to go with a messy up-do, or even a half up/half down look as she does take care of her appearance, yet she values her work first.

Week 2: Hair/Makeup for all other characters (04/03/2024)

We also brainstormed the looks for the other characters in the film, more specifically the characters with more visible and relevant looks.

We decided to give Lily a glam makeup look with hair down to match the dress the actor would wear. Additionally, we wanted to portray her as a model type, or some kind of fashion icon as the script portrays her as the glamorous type.

For the two Agents it was widely agreed to use hair gel to give them a clean, slicked back look. This seemed appropriate as they are supposed to be polished professionals. With makeup the general consensus after speaking with the assistant directors was to keep the makeup light for both of them.

Finally the trainee nurse would have light to no makeup as is expected on the job and hair up. whilst Noah would, of course, have the Elvis wig.

Week 3: Discovering Grace (11/03/2024)

In week 3 we discussed Grace in a deeper sense so as to understand her more and style her with more ease. We knew she was a creative character thus we decided on her half up half down hairstyle and we decided to keep Liv's (the actress portraying Grace) nose ring as it gave Grace more edge and helped differentiate between current Grace and older Grace (in the video she sends to herself). We also could not keep Liv's glasses due to the risks of reflections and glare, as much as I wanted to keep them.

We settled on this look in conversation with the costume department so all of Grace's looks coordinated.

Week 4: Final Week before Easter (18/03/2024)

In the final week of pre-production before Easter we read the fourth draft of the script and went over any missing details for the makeup/hair list. We also planned to finish off mood boards hair/makeup and the overall breakdown.

In conclusion the first four weeks were used to plan and finalise each characters' looks and plan the budget for what was needed.

Week 5, Pre-Production Day 1 (15/04/2024)

On the first day back, as we rehearsed the film all the way through, the makeup team and I finalised the looks for each character.

It was agreed from the beginning that Liv (who is playing Grace) would take lead in her own hair and makeup as she is also part of the team. We did, however, design her look together and agreed on the different looks for each scene.

We mainly concentrated on Lily's look too as it was the most visible and the brightest look that we wanted to achieve. The idea was to put the actor in a glam red/pink look and match the makeup to give Lily a powerful and successful look.

On the second day we discussed the final makeup looks for both Grace and Lily, as the photography studio scene is being filmed this Friday the 19th. We also organised the final budgets and makeup lists for the taxi scene and the photography studio scenes

During the days in which I was not needed in I organised the hair and makeup budget along with continuing to plan the final looks for each character present in the film.

Day 2 of production was the first day I was on set, as Liv, the actress playing the main character Grace had done her own makeup and hair for the taxi scenes (scenes 2-3).

For scene 1 of the film in Grace's photography studio, the hair and makeup team and I agreed on natural makeup and a smoky eye for grace, with a half up half down hairstyle, a messy yet laidback look for the creative character. Furthermore, we curated Lily's makeup look to be a glamorous makeup look, 1980s inspired. We decided on bold red lipstick and purple eyeshadow to match the confident and outgoing character of Lily.

Week 6, Production Day 3 (22/04/2024)

On the third day of filming we were shooting in the University of Salford's Podiatry Clinic who kindly let us film there for a day. For this day the makeup teams styled Liv's hair in plaits and she was not wearing any makeup as in the film she had been in bed prior to the emergency room scene. Furthermore, the actor playing the trainee nurse styled her own hair at home out of convenience and was not wearing makeup for the scene (scene 12).

In th next scene filmed in the clinic, scene 13 (in the interview room with the two agents), we applied pale foundation to both the agents to give them an inhuman and alien look and gelled their hair back for a clean, professional look.

Week 6, production Day 4 (23/04/2024)

On the fourth day of filming I was not required on set as my jobs could be fulfilled by other members of the team who were needed more than I. Noah required the Elvis wig and no makeup and Grace would be wearing the natural makeup and smoky eye that Liv herself had been doing all of filming thus far. I took this day to organise the final hair and makeup breakdown for the rest of shooting.

Week 6, Production Day 5 (24/04/2024)

On the fifth day we were filming in the Magistrate's Court for the final time, covering all the final scenes set in the Time Travel Agency. The characters in these scenes are as follows:

Agent 1
Agent 2
Prisoner
Receptionist
Senior Agent

The Agents maintained their slicked back hair and pale faces, and the rest of the characters' looks followed this themes. I applied pale face makeup to the actor playing the prisoner but keep their hair disheveled as they are presumed to be disgraced and do not work for the Agency. In Contrast, both the Senior Agent and the receptionist have their hair gelled back for the professional look, but no face makeup. This is because neither character is in action, or on the file so to say, time travelling like the Agents are and thus are not pale (as we decided that the pale faces are a side effect of the time travel).

Week 6, production Day 6 (25/04/2024)

On the sixth day of production we filmed in the flat we were using for Grace's house. We started with the scene of older Grace's video message for her younger self. Our original plan to age Liv, the actor for this video fell through due to decision changes, so we used a brown eyeliner to draw some wrinkles onto Liv's face in order to age her and we ended up putting her hair up slightly in an attempt to change up her look.

We also filmed the scenes with Grace getting ready for bed. No makeup was required but we maintained the plaits to line up with the hospital emergency room scenes filmed days prior. The hair was done by Liv herself with reference photos from day 3 of production.

Week 6, Production Day 7 (26/04/2024)

On the final day of shooting the only hair and makeup styling necessary was the blood streak on Grace's face when she is transported back to the bathroom. This caused quite a mess as pictured above but we managed to keep the blood on Liv's face clean and avoid staining her costume. The blood was an idea spurred on by the side effects of time travel in the film, afore mentioned by older Grace in the video message scene.
