Before you watch a movie, use this resource, read the guide for the movie you want to show to your ESL students, and teach your students all the critical vocabulary. This achieves 2 things: 1.) “You can experience watching the whole film and understanding (almost) everything, like a native, which feels really good and helps your motivation.” 2.) “While watching, you’ll be reviewing what you already know, which helps create long-term memories.” 

• Say you show your students the movie Elf. Before you show your students this movie, you will go over the guide for the movie. This guide includes the major characters and who they are, the plot summary, and some words and expressions ESL students may not know the explanation of each expression, and also an attached worksheet of questions for an ESL class discussion after the movie. 

• Expression and explanation example- “Why the long face, Buddy?”-A person with a “long face” looks sad or upset.

• The movie list on the website resource includes dialogue that contains a lot of useful, colloquial English and reflects various aspects of modern American life. Watching these movies can end up with a greater familiarity with the English language, as well as with the American culture in which it is spoken.
