Virtual reality is a simulated experience that employs pose tracking and 3D near-eye displays to gives the user an immersive feeling of a virtual world. Applications of virtual reality include entertainment (particularly video games), education (such as medical or military training) and business (such as virtual meetings). Other distinct types of VR-style technology include augmented reality and mixed reality, sometimes referred to as extended reality or XR, although definitions are currently changing due to the nascence of the industry.

VR has a huge role in education, we can use it to engage students at a level we could never anticipate. It’s a great tool to develop activities, exercises and make learning much more fun. Our teaching will be more interactive through VR, that is 100% guaranteed.

Source:
Virtual reality
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_reality

Incorporating new technologies into our teaching practice does not mean we need to reinvent the pedagogic wheel we use. The learning principles that underpin many of the tasks, activities and approaches we commonly use now can be improved, extended or even transformed through the considered and informed use of new tools such as virtual reality.

Source:
How can we use Virtual Reality to teach English?
https://www.cambridge.org/elt/blog/2018/01/25/virtual-reality-teach-english/

Lets imagine you want to teach students about jobs, and all the vocabulary that goes with these roles. Imagine we are in VR inside the metaverse…

You’re a taxi driver, go! You’re checking in at the airport, go! You’re in a restaurant and you’re not happy with your meal, go! Whether you like them or not, role plays have long been a staple of the ELT classroom. The idea that imaginary situations are good for practicing functional language is sound. It’s a tried and tested way to subvert the four walls of the classroom and create different contexts for communication. When students step out of their own identities to ‘become’ a different person, or, through the power of imagination, teleport themselves to a different place, the learning experience can be enriched.

Source:
Role Play
https://www.cambridge.org/elt/blog/2018/01/25/virtual-reality-teach-english/
