The closest thing that I can recognize is that after a few months of teaching these students my CT is able to tell when they're having issues or they need help. She has enough observations to tell. I would say this is an implicit call and response. This provides a kind of collective response to the call. Then I've asked students if they want to explain their choice of thumb position, which sometimes then results on more individual responses. One student has ADHD and has a difficult time sitting still so when she noticed that he's moving around too much to where it's distracting for the class, she'll just put her hand to signal this to him. Call and response is a main way that she builds relationships with students. EX: there is a student in my cooperating classroom who is outgoing at times, but mostly doesn't want to engage in class. Through specific call and response techniques my CT was able to understand why.
