In a time when political and church corruption were denying salvation based on right actions and works, leading into a theology of bodily harm, because of inconsolable sin. She provides a different view in a subversively political way. She can be looked to in our time for truth about how deep Gods love is for all.

Julian of Norwich's theology was based in the trinity, she encapsulated all of personhood in this trinity with the father, mother, and lord making up the pieces. the second part of the trinity, the mother, is encapsulated in Jesus's giving of himself on the cross, and the nourishment of our bodies with his own body, giving the perfect motherhood to us all. Johnson uses the historical perspective of Jesus mixed along side an active faith to break down the parts of classical theology that allow for abuse and misuse of power. Her perspective of the death of Jesus provides an alternative that does not make Jesus' death the will of God thus, God an abusive father but instead uses Jesus' God conscience as not being revealed to him until the end of his life.
